we tested gtalk's voice chat on broadband, it's fine.

I've been talking to a few friends on it already.

although, I'm using adium since I'm on a mac.

but my friends who are using google's own client say it's working fine.

Give Gaim a try. Even Google recommends it. I don't like the client that Google provided. Very confusing.
