[...] Proton Edar Sdn Bhd and EON have published new price lists for Proton cars, lower than the prices previously announced. It’s still not much, with the model with the largest price cut being 7% for the Proton Gen2 1.6 A/T Highline which translates to about RM4,450 in savings. The new price list is available after the jump, provided by Proton Corporate Communications. [...]

Wc5be...hard to say your name...
I like savvy cause it looks tough and its fit and finish is way better than my wira. But I do value my car spaciousness rather than small hatchback. As second car, okla.
P1 ads in Berita Hairan, got more discount for 2005. Looks like they have a tough time to sell old stock car. what to do, oil increase 30cents, interest last month I ask, 4.5 something. Not really good like last year promotion of 2.9 interest rate.

If unlucky, any car can burn suddently and accidentally, i personally saw a burnt merc and a burnt kenari by the roadside. I dont like Savvy, but this is just my personal taste, some might like Savvy. And Savvy is no use as a family car, cannot fetch too many thing and people.

wc5be, pls list your facts with proof. Dun simply say say.

There are still demands for Saga is there is aways needs for cheap sedan, and the cheapest sedan around is the Saga. Without car in town is just like without a leg, you cannot get anywhere(forget about public transport)! Poor people with family has no choice but to buy Saga, how can P1 waste this opportunity to suck this poor group of people dry?

Proton profit margin is high or low is actually unknown, but its cronies profit margin sure high, charge sky high on crappy parts, plastic board, etc. It is possible that proton is earn peanuts from the cost to build a whole car.

Ahh, friend, if you not really understand CamPro engine pls dont comment. I am not supporting P1 here, I know the CamPro is not a cam profilling engine, but i also know that many people like this engine. If you dont like it then just dun buy it, if you want a "proven technology", ok great, our Saga has been proven for so many decades on the road already, longer then renault.

I guess P1 is reluctant to reduced more on it's cars, coz they have to pay annual salary increments and bonusses to their staffs. So where to get money if not from sales????

Secondly, they have over 40,000 stocks of Wira, Waja, Iswara and Gen2 thats unsold in their inventories. Their profit margin is thinning, cost is getting higher. Hence, could not reduced too much. These stocks were produced at previous (high) cost levels. Hence, could not reduced lo.

Of all the models in P1, only Savvy and Gen2 are fresh from factory. Why? Coz manufactured in Tanjung Malim. 'nearly' JIT system. Shah Alam plant now operating at 40+%. Of Savvy and Gen2, Savvy is of better built quality. I dun wana be a guinea pig on their CamPro engine project. Normally, 1st engine lots of problem, coz no experience, learning curve very steep. Prefer Renault powertrain unit, proven and better technology than CamPro.

Furthermore, Gen2 atap belakang bocor. Power window sikit-sikit rosak. if unlucky, car might get burn suddently and accidently. Door susah nak buka/tutup. Ade benda yg lose-lose, unskru properly, etc etc.... Savvy tak banyak complaint so far. probably TUV cert effect. hehe...
So if wana buy, recommend Savvy + R3 kits. Just my view.

RE-CAP...

If P1 still only talking about to improve quality...but to what extends of quality they are referring to?? less defects?? higher grade parts (good material used)?? I think the price cut also further slow down their 'quality' improvement also.

Wahlaueh,

aksMS, i think you cannot blaim the vendors...( i am not proton vendors), from my point of view, e.g. P1 may allocate rm500 for the good quality doors rubber seal, but then at the end vendor got quote at may be half of rm500, REMAIN of RM500 go to someone pockets... that's why... not our vendor produce low quality part, it is the problem of material used (you paid what you get) that make the parts look low quality. I strongly believe our local vendors also can produce high grade parts & only problem is the material used for the parts. the better material used will cost higher & more reliable. So, what will we said as consumers, P1 faults or vendor faults?? left unknown... *_*

biggie, I share your confusion as why there are still demands for the Sagas. They should've discontinued even the Wiras long time ago. Sometimes it made me think that Proton only make money on these two models while hardly make any profit on others.

And to keep on producing these 'free' cars on demands by the vendors is extremely unacceptable to me. Just why Proton listen to them, I don't know. If vendors cannot comply to the market demand, they should've gone to hell already. Not only because of them we had to buy an 'expensive' Proton, but also, their cheap quality are putting our life at stake.

Haiyo Proton oh Proton. Come onlah you cal this a reduction ah ? So stingy from day 1. I believe tons of profit is still there. With the down grade interior quality & exterior looks.....they should reduce it further.

Soon when the other automakers come out with the final reduction price list then we can see the real challenge for proton...

My observation from what i experienced;

Proton Savvy 1.2 at RM 42K+ way to expensive....I think RM 30K is oklah !
Proton Wira 1.5 at RM 47K+ old technology.....I think at RM 38K oklah !
Proton Gen 2 1.6 at RM 57K+ very expensive...interior built quality macam cardboard ! RM 45K oklah
Proton Waja 1.6 at RM 62K+ haiyo ageing design, handling ada... apa guna, tech 10 tahun belakang. RM 50K oklah
Proton Perdana V6 at RM 106K fuh manyak mahal lah. Lama punya technologi. Kalau RM 85K oklah

Just my thoughts

triplesaber,
if you follow proton threads the Augusta saga has been discussed to death. The fact remains that the study to buy the comp. was done in 1 1/2 yrs and verified by independent consultant (PWC or KPMG). The decision to sell is within a mth.

I also don't understand why ppl keep on buying Iswara as only the sales figure support their existence. The extension of life for this donated car (it come free) is made by vendors who want to prolong their contract lifeline and part of vendor improvement program (they need to show that they can design own molds as the one donated/bought 2nd hand is at the end of their life. Proton keep producing these models as the demand for this car is still there.

Taken from the Star online (thanks to pycazu):

Expensive lesson

Looking back, Azlan said the Agusta episode was an expensive lesson for Proton.
“We do not want a recurrence of this. To an extent, the financial loss is damage to Proton,'' he said.
The second lesson from this was the loss opportunity as the amount of money pumped into Agusta - 100 million euros in total - would have been better used at Lotus, which was very much involved in auto manufacturing and engineering.
“They have the capabilities, name and brand. This type of money would be better used in building up that company and the money could have also gone into product development,'' he said.

So why on earth, did they do it in the first place? Its obviously clear that Lotus should b the one they need to work with. Just concentrate on making good cars la. The rakyat will again pay for the cost. I agree with what kodi said about the quality on the Saga/Iswara.. if u compared the new Saga/Iswara to the older model, u can feel the diff, like for example, the door, on the new model, ull mistakenly think itsa Kancil's door instead, how 'light', when u close it, the sound is like "Ktangg.." compared to the old's "Dupp".

The second lesson from this was the loss opportunity as the amount of money pumped into Agusta – 100 million euros in total – would have been better used at Lotus, which was very much involved in auto manufacturing and engineering.
“They have the capabilities, name and brand. This type of money would be better used in building up that company and the money could have also gone into product development,” he said.

So why on earth, did they do it in the first place? Its obviously clear that Lotus should b the one they need to work with. Just concentrate on making good cars la. The rakyat will again pay for the cost. I agree with what kodi said about the quality on the Saga/Iswara.. if u compared the new Saga/Iswara to the older model, u can feel the diff, like for example, the door, on the new model, ull mistakenly think itsa Kancil’s door instead, how ‘light’, when u close it, the sound is like “Ktangg..” compared to the old’s “Dupp”.

Bah. Proton can afford to reduce price n get rid of their leftover unsold stocks at Glenmarie.

What do u get in return? Poor QC'ed cars and parts falling out after a few weeks or months driving on our lousy roads.

Why? Those cars are exposed to our hot weather n other damaging elements. After that, they merely recycle the worn out parts (esp plastics) n rebadged the cars as SE or LE. What a con!

Sorry Proton, u must do better next time.

Wahlaueh...

i must said WTF....xxx@#... the after price cut are almost same prices as 2 years back which i purchased 1.5 wira AE auto for ~RM51k.
the time when i purchased proton car, WAJA manual cost near 58k++, now CAMPRO ~56k++, just a bit cheaper. no royalty fees paid to Mit. engine but still expensive.
When raised the price P1 just keep 'diam diam', i observed the new ISWARA AB LMST PS, the muffler used, are old type & i belived the whole ekzos system have change to old type to save cost. My GF got one (yr 2004)& i notice the ekzos diff. when went to service center, it used 4 to 1 & better ekzos system thus can have better pickup. Now the wheel cover also very ugly... Anyone wish to buy P1 cars after price cut better go to check what cheap parts they have install/replace to cover up the price cut lost.

P1's CEO Syed Zainal Abidin stress that new price won't be revised in this near future, it'll stay for a while. So, not further price cut lor...
btw, another surprise that P1 revealed the details of dumping of MV Agusta by 1 euro at this moment. They kept mouth shut when being questioned by 2 TMs but made the statements now, i doubt it , really doubt it... :O

Taken frm the site:

This is in line with the Government's call for local manufacturers to produce cars which the rakyat will be able to afford. PROTON in heeding this call have reduce its prices between RM1,000 to RM3,000 on each model for the benefit of the consumers.
"These new prices, which will take immediate effect, will put Proton cars on an equal competitive footing as all the other cars within the same vehicle segment" said Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir, Managing Director of PROTON Holdings Berhad

To produce cars which the rakyat will be able to afford?
For the benefit of the consumers?
Put Proton cars on an EQUAL competitive footing as all other cars..blabla?

Yeah right, after they have sucked the rakyat's blood all these years, now they r playing robin hood. What equal competitive they r talking about?! We have sooo many better cars within the segment of P1 cars, but since there would be no direct challenge to protect P1, all we got is the lousy 'cheap' cars with high price.

From what i see, this would result in more n more Wira flooding the road..RM42k only maa..murah murah. No offense to anybody driving a Wira (i also have a Proton at home) but then again, we couldve been driving an entry level honda with better safety n performance.. peace

Didn't we have all forgotten the price increasement from year to year? Proton already raised its price earlier. So this small and tiny price cut means nothing

its saddens me to see other manufactures can offer higher % price cuts, though maybe its the NAP policy anyway. Higher priced cars, higher cuts.
