Kia has unveiled it’s Kia ED, a future C-segment car for the European market. The ED is just a codename for now which stands for European Design as it’s targetted at the European market. The hatchback has a relatively long wheelbase, which will allow it to offer top notch interior space. The C-segment in Europe means small family car which include cars like the Ford Focus and the Honda Civic hatch. As a comparison, the Civic has a wheelbase of 2635mm while the Kia ED is longer at 2650mm.

Once it’s launched, it will offer the usual Kia range of engines, petrol engines in the 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0 range with CVVT variable valve timing as well as a new 1.6 litre turbodiesel equipped with variable geometry turbo. The Kia ED will go on sale in December this year exclusively in the European market. It will be offered first in 5-door hatch form, with station wagon and 3-door hatch versions to come in September and December 2007 respectively.

A hatchback model with exquisite styling. The frontal design looks all too familiar to current Kia models esp caren/citra or a bit of rio. Wud prefer to hv robust frontal configuration camry or accord. Anyway the side curves from front to the end very much of a volvo series. But looks great anyway.

They shd hv try to launch it in Asia as well.

hey guys! come on lah… some of u dont read the whole text before asking a questions when the answer is given already. pls dont waste paul's time. be a bit more productive k! btw i think kia is trying to emulate the other car makers. u know the camry has 2 version for USDM/JDM/EDM. likewise kia is going big time and would like to see some success on this. they have tried changing name like example; kia optima for the malaysian market and megantis for the singapore. the kia spectra need a major replacement and the cerato look damn ugly. iam not sure if the model is here already since i have not seen any advert in the papers. i would prefer if they consider bringing in this model to the asian market. i notice the wheel arches look somewhat similar to satria neo which i think is very common these days. well just pray and see what happens!

ED means european design. This car will be built in Slovakia. It was thought that this car will replace cerato/ spectra.

By the way our current Malaysia Kia Spectra is already an obsolete model. In Singapore it is replaced with Cerato but they keep selling the old Spectra here.

This ride is sweet. Kudos to Kia.

KIA is now the fastest growing car manufacturer in Europe. Recently it hires Peter Schreyer to head its design team. Schreyer is the man who designs Audi TT, VW Eos, the new Beetle etc. I'm sure KIA will come up with more exciting design soon.
