guys, dont compare malaysian car and foreign car too much la…honda, toyota and all that car manifacturers were already established when our Tun gave an idea of a national car 20+ years ago…so, give proton some more time..maybe another 10 to 20 years we can have our own 100% self made engine, parts etc..all made in malaysia..but im sure myself and most of u, if we can afford and hv extra money to buy more expensive and quality car..GO AHEAD..which is definitely better than proton! no doubt and no point to argue bout it!

for those who felt its not worth to buy national car, where is more expensive and low quality (compare to other country's national car) yes, it's true, our cost of living in malaysia is high..so just go and find other country that suits u and buy their national car..

But I never said "Campro is not powerful enuf in its segment" as mentioned by you. What I say is by world class player perspective, Campro is not good enough to compete in world market and nothing for us to be proud of. Hope my clarification "clear the dust".

From biz perspective, the main KPI is sales/turnover and from marketing point of view, the car shall look in totality, e.g. the styling, shape, functionality, comfort, quality, design, etc, etc. A success car shall be able to penetrate world market, not like P1 basically limited to our country. If what P1 claimed in front of us this and that is good , then export the car, prove the point by "attack/conquer" the world market.. Get in the foreign currency to enrich us, rather than suck every ringgit possible from local rakyat to "support" it existence.

Look at historical on politic, Roman, Ottoman, China, British and now American Empayar existence is because they are able to conquer and colonise other, protect and enrich their empayar/people. Do this empayar existence is out of their people protect the empayar? Same to P1, want to be dominant player, then must have the capacity to "attack/conquer", if always ask rakyat to protect it, then forever jaguh kampong – "telor sebiji riuh satu kampong"! P1 never learn from history!

aiyo..campro is very new to da market,it is an achievement to hve an engine..what?u mean they can develope an engine in juz a night??R&D should take couple of years maa..campro was introduced to us in 2004,n now is juz 2006,juz wait,then only proton will come out with bigger-cc campro.they r sure dont want to stick to dat 1.3 n 1.6 engine logicaly.

chrisbangle, you misquote me. My statement to matmoto means his claimed of Campro is made in malaysia is not a big deal! Don't expect all Malaysian have to be proud of what the P1 is able to do! I even can let you know (or you already know) that Honda Accord manufacture in USA is "100%" made in USA, including the Honda "H" badge. That why I still maintain nothing for Malaysian to be proud of 1.3 and 1.5L Campro engine, as the world market is flooded with all kind of engine 2.4L and above!

matmoto – you said not fair to compare with different class of engine. Then for ever you Kampung Jaguh unable to learn and upgrade your self to global player. If Campro is freak 1.3L and 1.5L engine, then they have to come out with big cc engine to compete. If you don't want to benchmark with world best, forever you are Kampong Jaguh!

Remember, compare with the like of Vios doesn't make P1 any improvement as Vios is "local best" produce by Toyota specifically for ASEAN market like our Bolehland and selling at more than RM 70K. If no NAP and operate under free market. Toyota don't need to sell Vios in our country with this price and will sell "world best" car like Toyota Camry 2.4L at around RM 70K as in the USA!

They are continental cars, they are Japanese and Proton in different group.Dont compare Proton with other makes as the roots of all the problems come from Proton. Even the "Oldman" admitted that he regret to start the Proton project. Proton is symbol of FAILURE,DESPERATION and FRUSTRATION.

if the price is good(reasonable), good quality people dont care what is the brand.but Proton power window failed as soon as you try to wave your hand to the salesguy for the delivery still within the PROTON showroom compound.PROTON buy one car free 1000 problems.

The most ah beng is the Accent with scissor doors. Why dont you kutuk on the cars too?

I forgot, its not a Proton.

Anyway, I drove a Waja the other day, a plain stupid looking 1.6 with the unpowerful Campro engine. And then came along this Hyundai Accent with a HUGE GT wing on the boot, trying to overtake me.

I lifted off the accelerator and allowed him to overtake. Fine, rally-bred car I said, must give way la.

Then came a nice sweeping turn and the bugger slowed down. I said what the F laaa….I took the corner in fifth gear with one hand picking my nose, overtook the bugger and sped off.

Accent cannot take corner meh? I thought rally bred car, not Proton some more, so should be faster and better la. If cannot take corner, then I rather stick to a Proton lah. Power window failure can kowtim. My Elise oso wind down window and leaks, never mind, as long as can take corners.

And again I forgot, Malaysians prefer fast-looking cars as they have driving skills of a kindergarten kid.

But to be fair, Proton's power window SUCKS big time.

true,when it come 2 da interior,proton has failed.the interior of savvy,new saga,gen2 n even the neo is damn hard like rock maa..mybe strategy 2 cut cost.but dont do this to consumer,they put da soft interior only to higher class segment,like waja n perdana.(wira is fortunate 2 hve soft interior)…even avanza is hard like rock..cut cost maa…

Talk about 1.3L and 1.6L, if really Campro good, then on global outlook, P1 should set a target of at least sell one million car per annum and "attack" market like Japan, Korea, Europe, USA, China, India, etc just like Kia or Hyundai to bring in Yen, Won, Euro, USD, Yuan, Rupee to enrich this Bolehland. The jargon for world class player with global view is "ATTACK" world market to enrich homeland, not kampong player expected "PROTECTION" at home turf at all cost, make the rakyat become "poorer and uglier".

Don't always expected and tell rakyat to be patriotic on a "condition" to support P1 at all cost. If P1 truely a national project and want rakyat to be proud of what they do, then the true patriotic for P1 is has to protect the rakyat by say (like China market) sell Savvy at RM 25K, Satria Neo at RM 30K, Waja at 35K, Perdana at RM 70K, etc. Go to global market and so that P1 is world class player, not telling rakyat that P1 is Jaguh Kampong which need to be protected by rakyat.
