Apple teams up with Ford, Mazda and GM

ipodyourcar.jpg

Apple Computer has teamed up with Ford Motor Co, General Motors and Mazda Motor Corp to offer easy iPod integration with their cars. While some manufacturers have begun offering AUX input so you can plug in external MP3 players and feed music into the audio system, this is not a complete solution as you cannot control the iPod from car controls such as buttons on the steering wheel.

Optimally, a complete integration solution will allow you to browse tracks from an LCD screen and skip tracks from steering wheel buttons. Recently, our local boys Race Rally Research have jumped onto the iPod bandwagon by offering an iPod Nano 1GB integrated with the car audio system with their new limited edition Proton Waja MME and Proton GEN.2 MME.

    dvd mp3 player is better.

if you got an ipod i suppose it would be useful. but cd's and dvd's are better.

why not Nokia or SE or others? Simple. The connection. Nokia cant make up their mind what kind of connectors they want to use. Is it Pop-art or pop whatever. And SE, oh please….same thing. And people in the US dont usually use Nokia and SE, they prefer Motorola, then how? Apple by far is the most popular and hip MP3s period throughtout the World. Their connectors are standard, they dont change like Nokia and SE

I cant wait to get my Ipod Integration kit !

Well, for all those of you with Bluetooth-equipped handphones can already connect it to some cars and talk via the radio. And what's so meaningless about iPod intergration in cars? The iPod is the number one MP3 player on the planet and a lot of people would really like to listen to their music collection while driving. And its quite a pain in the arse to transfer the songs to a disc.

yea i guess depends if u use the ipod or not.

personally i dont use any mp3 players. i know people who had the ipod video. but after 2 weeks or so, they dont use it anymore and its collecting dust. …maybe they can chuck it into the car now.

did they say ipod 1GB?? .. they should have a USB connection to the player..

i think everybody carries a thumbdrive compared to a ipod… i have 2GB pendrive ! so i think it can store more than the ipod unless we can connect the 40GB ipod. but still pointless why pay so much for a device when u can use the cash to upgrade the ICE!..

"Why pay so much for a device when u can use the cash to upgrade the ICE?!"

You can't bring your ICE wherever you go, nor store 30GB/60GB of songs in it, can you? Besides, if you can already own a car with iPod connectivity (Waja and Gen.2 MME excluded), you wouldn't need to upgrade the stereo, such is the sophistication of today's built-in ICE. Take, for example, Volvo, with its superb Dynaudio systems. You won't be able to replace the ICE, anyway, since they're intergrated. I do agree, though, that they should have a USB connection for other MP3 players.

BTW, most iPod connections are via cable, with the obvious exception of the MME Edition Protons.

well.. i would not like to be hearing songs 24/7 all the time if i have a nice ICE. depands on personal choice. rite?

so.. u r telling me that ipod will sound great on a proton clarion player? have is the player been install some amp? what about the speakers? i guess u have.. an ipod.. pls do let me know how it sound like. thanks

I did say Waja and Gen.2 MME excluded…

I guess it does depend on personal choice. I, for one, would want to listen to my iPod while driving, since all the songs in it are those that I like. Unlike the radio, where you might come across songs you wouldn't like. But then I don't have a car with iPod connectivity, so I can't comment much.
