What kimmy said is true! This is just like that story NASA going through the trouble of developing the pen that can write in zero G while the Russians just used a pencil. (yes i know it’s just a story, but the moral is the same).

ford already has a reputation for building powerful and efficient engines, they are also well known for their work with hybrids, ethanol, diesel and hydrogen engines. Ford already has over 70,000 flexible fuel vehicles on the road in the US that can run on both petrol and ethanol(made from corn or any starch feed stock such as barley, sugarcane..etc.)

the whole point here is, ford is giving what their customers want.. Isn’t that what any company should be doing?

kimmy: some older european cars had that, like the volvo 2 series, you had to unlock the cap with the key.

I simply don’t get the point of this so called “technological breakthrough”. While the Europeans are busy developing new alternative fuel engines and making current engines more efficient and powerful, the Americans are creating fanfare and flying their pride and glory over a new capless fuel tank?!?

Frankly, these oversensitive-paranoid-hypochondriac-SUV-driving-housewives could believe that they could die from touching water and breathing oxygen.

If that person can’t remove a fuel cap because of pain in his hands, in what God forsaken world is that person able to drive a car ?!?

American stupidity … great for creating muscle cars … but nothing else.

savvy’s fuel cap is attached to the body, so its not like you can forget as its just hanging there

I think the easiest way to slove this problem is for car manufactures to install fuel fillercaps that require the ignition key to open the cap. This not only eliminates the risk of forgetting about the fuel cap (you’ll need the ignition key which is still stuck to the fuel fillercap to start the car ‘duh’) but it also ensures sure that drivers turn off their engines while filling up. A simple and cost effective system.
