E92 BMW M3 Possible Specifications

bmw_m3_spywcf.jpg

I am eagerly awaiting the new E92-based BMW M3 to be released to see what fantastic new engine BMW will be putting under the hood. New BMW engines seem to naturally be award winners lately – the 3.0 twin turbodiesel in the BMW 535d, and the normally aspirated 5.0 V10 in the BMW M5.

Details of the new E92 BMW M3 has surfaced on forums like M3 Post, and while we don’t know if this is the actual real specifications, let’s just have a look at it anyway. Details are after the jump.

307 kilowatts of power would be approximately 412 horsepower. The engine has a peak torque of 420Nm. That’s only 20Nm of torque higher than the BMW 335i‘s figures! Looking at the high horsepower to displacement ratio and the relatively lower torque figures as compared to the horsepower, this is likely a normally aspirated engine that makes its high power from sky high revving like it’s older brother the 5.0 V10.

From these specifications, it also looks like it will come in either a 7-speed SMG III computer controlled clutch transmission or a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Of course, remember that these specs are not officially released by BMW, so any dude like you and I could have made them up ;)

As I was looking through the M3's history, the M3 has always been a fast coupe for enthusiasts. But here, the M3 now looks less mean with the new front look.

Overall, the M3 is still worth driving thanks to it's twin-turbo and also the fun 7 speed sequential manual gearbox…

The M3 has no twin turbo. It's naturally aspirated.

specs wise ..should atleast rival the audi rs4 which is the direct competitor…the rs4 is has awesome spec sheet…bt the m3 being wat it is…anything less than 10/10 wil be a disapointment…but it wont…bcos its the legendary M3!

Judging from the kind of power they are able to offer in the twin-turbo 335i, the all-new M3 should be a stormer.

With Merc having 6.5-litre AMG-tuned engines, the power rating just goes up and up, ain't it?

When will fast be too fast?

    SG,

Merce having 6.5 litra AMG only in CL.

CL 6.5L AMG rival is M6, not M3.

i think main rival of M3 is the audis. RS4 as someone said. the amg machines are indeed powerful, but other than that got nothing much to compare to the M3 and M5 in terms of driving.

I have seen a singapore registered RS4 parked between two F430 at Mandrin Oriental and a Meserati once. I think it was the F1 gala sometime back before.

I am rather confused (or is this the point of contention) as to the powerplant of the upcoming M3. Is it confirmed to be N/A or twin turbo charged? I agree with the above comments that the target for M3 is more towards RS4 as oppose to AMG products which are more focused on power/engine.

I fell in love with the M3 when driving an Auto E30 M3, for such an old car it was totally brilliant. After then owning an E36 M3 all I can say is the car is a great second car but parts and maintenance just kills you in the end.
