Exodust: Just coz you live in ozzieland and can get great cars at cheap prices doesn't mean you can bash poor people in M'sia who are stuck with NAP. And what's wrong with asking Honda to make an affordable rear wheel drive vehicle for the masses like Toyota (true, the AE86 has been discontinued but I can still get it for cheap second-hand) and Nissan. Honda is a large company that invests a lot in racing already and it's not like I'm asking you personally to pay for the development cost.

Finally, I can surmise from your disparaging comments about drifting that you are a close minded and/or middle-aged person. A lot of sports were considered fads in their infancy but have since become mainstream (try doing research on snowboarding at the Olympics). The same will happen for X-games and drifting. Open your mind and don't be so quick to bash young people.

yea...watched taht episode, like the way hammond presents. esp the way he does the action of flipping the gear lever and then saying 'the civic type r'.

i understand being a type r (and if they stick firmly to that concept) it wont have overdrive gear. just try to increase the ratio's for the final gear. or use a higher and different final drive (or whatever they call that) for the final gears like what most hot hatches have and are doing.

driving a type r at 100 kmh in top gear with the rpms at 3500 is not nice. being a hot hatch,it needs to do it all. and that includes cruising with fuel economy in mind.

gota wait for the gear ratio specs to come out and see what they've decided. but doesnt really matter, it looks superb and should go like a rocket. i'd have to admit im not really liking the sedan civic look anymore. grows old after a while after see alot of them on the road.

@whodz: are we looking at the same satria neo? no offense, but iu think it looks tacky. just wondering how you could prefer it to the type-R's knob. both are round, but the Type-R is shiny all around whereas the neo has some rather weird design material covering certain areas of it, which no doubt will come off not too far into the future.

...but still, I guess it really is a matter of taste. I'll take back my previous opinions & you have my humblest apologies.

@topgunthang: it will most probably not have an overdrive gear. It is the Civic Type-R after all. As said in one of the epsiodes of Top Gear (sorry, forgot which one), "the Civic Type-R is the boy racer of the hot hatches. If it were in a p0rn film, it would play the rough plumber rather than the suave business man". The Type-R has always been about sportiness, rough driving. Personally I don't mind, its how I drive anyway. I'm not bothered easily when stuck in traffic jams, still have the music player & better to be in a nice car than to be a exhaust-inhaling pedestrian.

@4G63T DSM: Nice post man. :D And about drifting with AWD, a company called RSR released a drive kit that can turn evo's into RWD (as shown with the evo in Tokyo Drift). Of course, that kills the whole point of buying the evo in the 1st place, :P

s2000 is a grip machine....very planted.

as for gear knob. theres no point to compare it to proton cars. go ahead and try an integra gear box or any honda gear box. its about as good as it can get to a ferrari or porsche gear shifts.

the new honda type r definitely is a fast car. it looks futuristic but its not my taste. thier designs on the integras are still better looking and more up class. though the GT model effectively takes the place of the integra type s.

but i hope the 6th gear is an overdrive or tall gear instead of being close ratio to the others. should help the not so comfortable highway driving of type r's. since type r's are mainly going to be daily driven by most owners.

interesting to see what happens when it clashes with the golf gti and the ford xr5 and mazda3 mps. all in the same category. i feel the gti still edges out a bit. more comfortable and less stressed when pushing hard. even though i feel it will be definitely slower.

@exodust : titanium?..might be better in term of material. In my previous opinion, its all about design. The design of the gear knob itself, neo is better, I think. A name by Honda or other great cars doesn't determine whether the design is good than other car especially Proton. Furthermore, design is a subjective matter. And, Neo is not a car of my own. Sorry.

nice….! new red colour instead of the normal white or yellow!! however, i think it would be better looking from the side sumthin like how the satria gti wing was but a little bigger. would balance the look of the car methinks"

i'm quite agreed with that point.

I’m with exodus & 4G63T DSM. honda have to resposible 2 make its' share holders happy. which included all those foreign fund manager.
they cant launch any project which cant b profitable since the s2000 can answer 2 drift enthusiatic.
honda even have the delima 2 stop intergra & replace it with civic type-r 4doors just 2 improve their financial figure further. cos the type-r racing spirit cant bring the bacons home alone. not like mitsu evo, is selling as company image but actually mitsu have 2 subsides every unit of evo products.

I'm with exodus.

Drifting is a fad. Going sideways is the SLOWEST way around a track. Worst way to make your tyres last on the track.
Beside you are pretty wrong. Honda has the NSX and the S2000

If you are really so into drifting, try ICE racing. (opps, too bad, malaysia is too hot) My Turbo AWD DSM equipped with ice tyres can do that all day long.

If you think drifting a rear drive car is difficult, try that in an AWD with a peaky turbocharger.

@whodz: neo gear knob is better? DREAM ON!!! the Civic Type-R has a titanium shift knob, why dont you tell me what is on that crapcar of yours?

@drifting4eva: actually, toyota DOESNT hav any cars in their lineup that can dirft. They HAD cars, supras & ae86's hav long left the production line so you cant count those. And have you never seen drift s2k's? there are quite a few in america, japan, heck they have a few here in australia.

But please, be pragmatic. Use your head & what little brains in it. Honda has invested a fortune in the FF layout, they use it in all their cars except the NSX & s2000 (and also a select few models that use SH-AWD). To suddenly invest money in a rear-wheel drive car is a lot harder than you think, especially if the reason is to fulfill the current craze among a bunch of amateur drivers. Seriously, the whole drift thing is only that popular among people who either dont have a license, or do not have any skills in professional driving. Well, I dont know if thats the case in Malaysia, but its a fact in USA & other western countries. Sooner or later the drift craze will go down & will just be another form of racing. I personally always preferred circuit & track anyway.

What I'm trying to say is that no one car manufacturer aims to have a car in ALL categories. Honda probably decided drifting is not worth their effort.

And have you never seen drift s2k's? there are quite a few in america, japan, heck they have a few here in australia.

nice....! new red colour instead of the normal white or yellow!! however, i think it would be better looking from the side if the spoiler was at the top instead of in the middle. sumthin like how the satria gti wing was but a little bigger. would balance the look of the car methinks

f/f layout means cannot drift. please please honda make a car that can drift. both nissan and toyotas have such cars in their lineup. how can you call yourself a racing team company when you don't have one :(
