Talking about comparing BMW 320 and C-Class.

BMW 320 is 150hp when this C Class kompressor engine is only 1.8 litre but with 184hp
BMW with only 200 tourge while C Class at 250

Price is BMW slightly cheaper of 10k I guess.

Any comments?

I am zapped byt he design and the sheer presence of the car. Three cheers to the design team. I am planning to buy the 280 with AMG package, but am not sure if it comes with the AMG badge on the boot, can anyone confirm?

Another car added to Mercedes line-up that carfanatics would love! Carefully chosen design, upgraded auto parts like Mercedes master cylinder and other accessories added to this new car. Hopefully it would not be that expensive to own one. (Cross fingers..)

Excellent piece of work from Mercedes.

Sharp lines and sporty design. The W204 could definitely compete head-on with the boys from Bavaria.

Personally I would say it's a tad higher on the scores in terms of design when compared with the E90.

The Avantgarde version looks very striking - very much alike an AMG version.

However, the rear could be improved slightly further by making its lines sharper. Overall, a very good effort by Mercedes. Thumbs up for you!

No more classical Mercedes Benz old school design, this is a completely new car, not facelifted, so I think this is a good move and the C-Class fans will be glad to see the new C-Class on our roads......

I'll buy this for my mother as birthday gift if i got the cash......

hmmm.. I thought the new C class will look a little bit like the new S... like a mini S class... this one looks a bit awkward.. the front seems to me... outdated. but underneath all that.... it's all kick ass! :D

Nice car, more of an evolutionary redesign unlike the Chris Bangle designs on the BMW. I still don't like either steering wheels though, the old ones were ugly enough, the new ones are worse...

Goniothalamus: the original press release is 99 pages long, a 1MB PDF file. it is disheartening when i go through all 99 pages and summarize it here, and be accused of copy and paste.

mattyboy: Autocar is wrong. This car still uses supercharged M271 engines.

spongiosus: different tuning and boost levels

Weird.......and cheap-looking too. This has gotta be the next weirdest Merc after R-class.

Meanwhile, the interior, with all those boxy-theme, it looks like some Korean car. Can't they come out wit something interesting? Oh sure, they can say they're reverting back to the traditional old design, yeah rite. They've spoilt the look on the C-class, I'm so sorry, bt I'd rather have the W203. This one is too.....too.......(fill in the blanks) for me.

Fantastic spec by the all new W204...
With the complete copy and paste report by paul, i feel like studying in car engineering..heh!

So this is the new model line by Merc, the biggest rival for premium car, particularly for the Beemer and Audi, their same blood of Hitler. I very impressed by the reaction happen there, they don't give their competitors move forward. If i launch my model today, you will launch your model tomorrow. Phew!

Can't comment much of the performance, because i did not test W204 yet, but i guess this should be better than W203. Great engine, good handling, first aid kit car (safety) and all the long list of tech spec. All new model by other manufacturer will do like this nowadays. Ok, just wait for the price tag soon. Should it will better than the all new 3series?

By the way, it seems like the designer come back to the original. Yes, the star icon car start with round design for the start, boxy shape of the middle era, curve like during 2001, and now they going back to the past, combine its all to built the new S-class. No more peanut, no more round.

With the praised achievement of the S-class, so the market push the designer to follow the top of the line model, make it cheaper and the C-Class is made. Same as this, it's compressed of the big. Now, return to the original boxy C32 W202, but to inject adrenaline of younger looks, the sight of Lexus is added (but the tail lamp remind me the worst SY Stavic). To be honest, i wonder why the C class going to be the size of E and S. I rather like the original size of W202 or the late 190E model. Let C is C, let S is S.

Hm.. the size and space are luxury. So, C can be E, E can be S.
Ok class, start spelling.... A,B,C,D,E...bla..bla.. X,Y.Z. Yey..yey!

Let it be.

With the praised achievement of the S-class, so the market push the designer to follow the top of the line model, make it cheaper and the C-Class is made. Same as this, it’s compressed of the big.

Ok class, start spelling…. A,B,C,D,E…bla..bla.. X,Y.Z. Yey..yey!

Let it be.

The current W203 C-Class has been on the road since the year 2000, and has already been facelifted. Despite being so old, the post-facelift model still manages not to look dated on Malaysian and international roads.

That's the ability of world class car manufacture. not AFTA standard.

I dunno, it looks a bit SsangYong to me. Those creases going up the flanks look awfully like the ones you find on a 3-series too...and is it just me or do the door handles look odd in their offset positions? Whatever it is, it really looks like Merc has decided to shoot for Bangley experimentation, and so far I don't think it's working.

That said, the cabin looks very interesting, and this might just be amazing to drive, since they've had the 3-series in their sights for ages now and even Audi have managed to make a contender with the RS4, so they can't have been taking the task lightly. Could the C-class see a return to Mercedes' customary levels of over-engineering and sublime quality? *fingers crossed*

Both the C180 and C200 Kompressor have changed from supercharged to turbocharged on the new C Class - they have kept the name Kompressor for continuity of name, quote below from Autocar:
"Petrol engines start with a turbocharged 1.8-litre four developing 156bhp in the C180 Kompressor and 184bhp in the C200 K– an improvement of 13bhp and 20bhp respectively"

Yeap.. at first I thought the same too.. The sleek sharp bumper and headlights seems a bit similar to the IS200

I think they could have done better with the steering wheel. Those circular buttons on it looks more like ringworms (kurap) on a persons butt. Apart from that, it looks good, even better than the new 3series. But then again, which car doesn't eh? heh

back to the conventional headlight design. must have ran out of ideas to tweak the headlight. anyway, it's a nice car. nothing really spectacular. (i'm a merc fan, btw)

the front looks like it incorporate a lil bit of lexus. rear light looks like the old rear of honda city + merc e-class rear. the car feel a lil bit more conventional than the previous model, but of course the good point is it's a lil bit larger.

the white one is surely a nice one!!! feel like the 2007 merc cl500

Is it just me who notice that the rear light design is 'City'ish (pre-facelift model). Its interesting to see new M-Benz design cues: sharp edge on the bottom of the grille, protruding wheel fenders, red-white-red stripe rear headlights, curvy side profile ala CLS & sleeker front headlights.

The fact that it looks similar to S class makes C class look attractive to buyers. There are a lot of times when I thought I saw an S-class car, which turns out eventually to be a C-class.

it looks like a box-ish version of the current HONDA LEGEND..but overall performance is impressive though..drag coefficent is very good if you keep in mind the box-ish looks.

would still go for a beemer though!
