Next generation Honda City/Fit Aria

FOLLOW UP UPDATE: Unmarked car confirmed to be new Honda City 2PS!

Since we all know how the successor to the Vios will look like, with it being launched in countries like Thailand already, what about it’s competitor, the Honda City? Our current generation Honda City is basically a sedan version of the Honda Jazz, called Fit Aria in Japan alongside it’s hatch brother the Honda Fit. Based on an artist sketch preview of the next generation Honda Fit, I asked Theophilus Chin if he could somehow create a sedan version of the new Fit design based on that artist sketch and this is the result!

Of course, this is just a photoshopped impression, it might have zero similarity to how the final production successor model to the Honda City will look like, but it’s fun to speculate isn’t it? Check out the related post for a full size image of the next gen Honda Fit 5-door.

looks like focus(side), fiat linea(profile), passat(rear), punto-ish front. feel tat d front shuld b more agressive or maybe longer 2 suit d side. rear is nice 4 a hatch-based sedan. wow!

Hey Theo! Has P1 approached you to improve their products? I think you do a better job then their designer! Can do part time job already!.. :)

I guess better do some explanation. When I saw the other artist's sketch preview of the next Jazz/Fit, it struck me that it looks like the Fiat Grande Punto ( http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/2985/3901104fi… ) and so I did my chop of the City based on the Punto. What I added was CR-V's grille, bumper and lights so it resembles the Jazz/Fit impression. But unlike the Punto, the Jazz/Fit's side mirror is joined to the sub-A-pillar, not on the front doors. The artist's impression of the Jazz/Fit (ditto my City chop) also has the common Honda "pull-out" type door handles, as oppose to Fiat's flush type. I also extended the wheelbase slightly so the rear door line doesn't sit in the wheel arch like the Punto's. As for the boot, well, it's based on the US Accord Coupe concept that appeared late last year's, a car that also gave me that D-pillar kink ( http://www.desktopmachine.com/pics/Honda_Accord_1… ).

For a moment there I wanted to do my City chop based on the Fiat Linea, itself a sedan based on the Punto ( http://www.desktopmachine.com/pics/Fiat_linea_40_… ). But that car is so huge that it is actually marketed to compete with Mondeo/Passat/C5/407. Although I must say the Linea is one lovely car, especially considering the fact that it was a mini hatchback.

I LOVE IT!!! Seriously. Although the Fit looks very very close to a Fiat Grande Punto, the greatest improvement must be in the sedan version; it's totally changed and you don't get the big body small wheels impression anymore. Rims on sedan lousy, but everything else is great!

hmm… i think overall the shape looks nice… the only thing is tat we have to remove the front bumper and modify it with a redesign sporty bumper, then front, side and rear skirtings. if it goes like this, im sure this car will look amazing…. i still think the current city still has the gene of the previous city, which the butt still look kinda huge… but this city juz look nice and normal…

Thou i have to give credit to theophilus for chopping such remarkable and relaistic renditions of the City.

    I MUST SAY:

Following the worldwide failure of Honda City. Failure not in the sense that it did not sell in good figures, but failure because inspite adding so many additional features such as CVT, steptronic, flexible interior etc. It completely loose out to Vios in terms of sales figures.

This is a lesson to learn for Honda, a creator of exciting, sporty, daily use cars (which IMO it's direct above segment is BMW). They have created a 'sensible' car that not only looks, but performs totally contradicting their corporate image of being sportiness.

If we were to compare Vios, it's everyway a Toyota, sensible, looks fine, not overtly sporty but in everyway suits the typical Toyota buyers who're a tad un-exciting and un-adventurous. That's why it sells, it's everything buyers expected from Toyota, despite it falling short on equipment levels compared to City. In Malaysia, Vios sold 26,0000 units in 2006, in Singapore, Vios sold 5500+ units whereby City only sold 800+ units.

I believe if Honda were to fight in this segment again, they will somehow have to launch another shared platform model, using a more sporty, sleek appeal to snatch buyers from Vios, position it a tad higher than Vios with engine variations of 1.5 and 1.6. Cut all the flexible loading crap; give us a true HONDA.

    That way, they'll sell; IMO.

Nice work, Theo. But it's abit too European-looking. Like ilmondo first said.

Are all future Hondas going to have that new 'corporate grille' (if it's a corporate grille at all) … ? It first appeared on the CRV and I thought it looked like Datuk K's moustache.

ingolstadt, i think i have to disgree with you..

FYI, if cvt is problematic, how come the Jazz Vtec with CVT won the best family car or sumthin in the US?? (i've forgotten its under wat category)

alot of ppl say that the cvt gearbox is problematic and bla bla,

but if u ask me how many ppl that i know have experienced gearbox failure on a new car(STOCK), the answer is NO..and it performs like charm when u use the CVT fluid which is recommended by HONDA itself.. those problems experienced by certain drivers are coz they use the conventional ATF fluid… and ppl also say if it costs 20k++ if u wanna replace the gearbox…but which idiot replaces the entire gearbox to a new set? infact, my fren with a jazz turbo juz had his gearbox changed..a 2nd hand cvt gearbox from d half cut shops ony cost him 2.3k….. > and you shud also know that his gearbox got damaged coz he was running turbo set up

btw, those ultra seats are functional..its not a sales gimmick..

juz go and have a look at both cars.. u would notice that the boot of the city is way bigger than the vios..

1 more thing is that both the city and vios come in 2 variants…

idsi and vtec for city and 1.5E and 1.5G for the vios..

if ur observant enough, u would notice that BOTH the variants of city comes with dual airbags whereas, the only the higher spec version of the vios -1.5G gets dual a/bags.. (1.5E comes with single a/bag for the driver ONLY)

what does that show?? TOYOTA willing to compromise on passenger safety just fot the sake of selling its cars at a cheaper price??

i think you can do it better, Theo!

but given the CRV double-grill front… you have no choice! UGLY!

hope Honda are not so silly to use the same front onto their next Jazz/Fit/Fit-Aria/City….. Do come out with something as futuristic as 8th Civic! Cool!

    Keep our finger crossed!

design wise, if Honda were to make the Next City look like a baby Civic Sedan, they would do rather well.

The current Civic makes most other Asian, or even some euro Sedans look bland and unexciting.

they should make a mini civic instead of this design. let the smily face become the base of the new big cars of honda and make the civic become the base design for the smaller cars.

From the ugly duckling to the slingshot.

The new 2009 Honda City looks urban chic. Asian automotive form & function.

Stylish from any angle. Nota Bene! The tilted BMW-ish brake lights and the over all tight and compact design.

The 2005 ugly ducling – became the sligshot. The 1,500 cc engine is

enough for Bangkok everyday urban driving and the occasional week end escape to Chonburi ( Pattaya).

Is this the best looking city car for the time being?
