The above photo is quite a clear photo showing the rear three quarter profile of the new Nissan Latio Sedan to be introduced in the Malaysian market soon by Edaran Tan Chong Motor. This photo was snapped in Genting Highlands once again by reader Din. The Nissan Latio Sedan inherits the typical strange side profile that comes with every sedan that is based on a car originally designed as a hatchback, and check out that Bangle-style bootlid!

The bootlid's similar to the one on Nissan Teanna. Most hatchback-based sedans are slightly taller, narrower, stubbier at the back and has wheels that look too small. Toyota Belta looks very nice though, doesn't seem to have this proportion problem.
The rear boot compartment could be a little longer to give it a proper sedan-ish look. Not really taking to car like these nowadays with the short boot look example Honda City. Still like the cars of the olden days for looks. Nowadays, its so plain and common.
Designers really have given up on the looks department as most of the time a new cars design is governed by the chassis which is normally re-used time and time again for newer models to cut R&D cost. Best examples? Toyota Belta, Yaris. Honda Jazz, City
Last week there is a car show at One Utama by Tan Chong. There will be a brief for all the sales person on this Latio model in coming days. It is schedule for launch in this July. The price range around RM75k in manual and automatic versions. Both come in 1.6l engine. There are 2 type of Latio, sedan and hatchback which is said to be price higher than the sedan. I see the singaporean latio before, it looks muscular in close up.

Not so for the new Vios (Belta). Although it's based on the Yaris, the new Vios does not look weird as Toyota has lengthened the wheelbase unlike the Honda City which retained the same wheelbase as the Jazz with a tail just simply added to it i.e. weird. The same goes for the Latio.
It is understandable that hatchbacks have shorter wheelbase as it gives better cornering but sacrifices on cabin space. For a sedan cabin space is preferred and hence a longer wheelbase. But the City retained the same short wheelbase of the Jazz for the sake of reducing cost. DUH! Thumbs down for Honda.
Manual version for this Latio??… would be great…..Thumbs up to TCM but 1st pricing should be competitive & reasonable ..better be since the rumour rgrdg new vios pricing will be less than 70k….not like the Teana…crazy, since might as well get a merc or beemer…
Btw rgrdg comments bout city …eventhough the boot look small from otside but actual very big (500 liter)…can increase further if u flatten the ultra seat but totally agreed wt its weird looks. Maybe Honda give priority for practicality not looks..
the funny thing is, and i'm convinced.. the city sells well because of the practicality it offers, size and good simple driveability, not forgetting the excellent fuel economy on the i-dsi.. and cheapest honda sedan.
people in this market segment are willing to overlook the looks, and go for value for money plus all of the above.
with this sort of buying environment, i'm pretty sure this new nissan will definitely have lots of people waiting to buy one.
Hope the price for Latio will be around Vios n City so then can consider. I like their design and their interior. If is 75K then is reasonable. But the hatchback is better.
I don think malaysian are mostly into the value 4 money factor. If it is true, can somebody explain to me the reason to failure of Proton Juara? It is a big interior car in small exterior, kinda cheap, 4 so litttle Rm u got so many metal and space in Juara, why it would fail?
The Belta, Vios doesn't have this odd body proportion is because they take the chassis of Yaris and put a different design not same as the yaris. in other words, Toyota put a little bit more money to make a design diffrently from the hatchback.
The current trend is this, small cars are getting taller and taller bcoz a high roofline creates a sense of spaciousness in the car, therefore, a hatchback based sedan will have this tall, narrow odd shape vs the sleek and long sedan shape

Looks very much like Waja
Wonder what the price tag gonna be
Looks a bit cartoonish from this angle!

looks like some china car…terrible…designers should be sacked…
Last time the car designer design the sedan car shape first, then alter it and design the hatch back version..
Nowadays, designer design the hatchback version first then the sedan version..
Mayb this type of car is more target to youth and they more prefer to hatchback car.. look more sporty..
Looks a bit like a mini Teana. Enough already! What's the price?
the hatchback is better looking than the sedan, from the picture, the car is too big for its wheels

Look like WAJA la…. But sure the safety not even in the same level.
But again, with the price tag, sure it won't win over VIOS/BELTA safety.
Price=safety

weird looking. look like waja.
insider news said that the price will be at the rage of toyota latis and honda civic as this car is introduce for this segment….

i still do not like it! it looks narrow, n the back looked stumped.and the ughhh!….small wheels!

this Latio would lose to Belta(new Vios) appearance wise…
most buyer would take appearance into serious consideration….
this is where Belta would win….
Latio would win at the interior perspective…
the chassis might be similar
not sure Engine and suspension
yeah, I hate sedanization of hatchback. it look freaking ugly. honda city is damn ugly. toyota belta looks nice. :)
sedanization..LOL
