997 Porsche 911 GT3 on the Nurburgring

997 GT3

Unlike the 997 911 Turbo which features the latest in technology with twin VGT turbochargers: a first on a gasoline engine and all wheel drive, the 911 GT3 is a more track-day biased vehicle using a high revving race-bred normally aspirated engine and a rear wheel drive setup. Video after jump.

Anybody knows the benchmark time for road-legal supercars doing a flying lap on nurburgring?

I've tried Gran Turismo 4 simulation on the nurburgring. Its very difficult with narrow roads and sudden tight hairpins. But can't achieved gold tho.

If you think this is scary, you need to see the one where Michael Vergers sets the production lap record in a Radical SR8.

If you want something a little less hardcore and can do everything well, it'll be the 911 Turbo.

    Rough translation:

The new Porsche 911 GT3. 415 horse power. From nil to 200 in 14.1 seconds. Maximum 310 kilometres per hour. And equipped with the "genes" for the race track.

D-Motor tester Tim Schrick really pushes the new [GT3] on the Nordschleife of the Nurburgring.

    – The Nordschleife and Porsche are a really close couple. You can feel that [the car] has done quite some kilometres here on this track before it was finally handed over to other people.

Many dozen times prototypes were run on the Nordschleife for fine tuning. The result: the GT3 is by far more agile ("fahraktiv") than a normal 911.

    – Here on the Nurburgring, you can really feel the changes to the new edition of the Porsche GT3. Well, you are faster with this car and it's even easier to drive. It's quite a leap forward and it's… fun!

    [music: push it good]

The GT3's interpretation of the familiar lines of the 911 is very unobstrusive.

A mighty rear wing and chubby cheaks are the most obvious characteristics. The "gaps" and "gills" provide lots of cool air to the powerfull six-cylinder in the back.

There's Alcantara on the steering wheel, the center console and the sporty-tight bucket seats. (plus expression of sportyness)

And its sporty pronounciation makes the GT3 predestined for the race track.

    – The sound in this car is really nice, you can revv the motor up to 8400 RPM. And I feel that it has the most "punch" between 7000 and 8500.

And this "punch" animates the GT3 to real top-performances.

    – 275. 280. 285. 290.

    – Well, 292 in "Antoniusbuche", with 415 HP, that's… really fast!

It's good to know that the extremely powerful braking system is capable of stopping you "lightning-fast".

    – Big jump hill ("Großer Sprunghügel") Pflanzgarten.

Only the fastest cars lift off here for a moment. And the GT3 does make a leap, too.

The fast Porsche does not hold back with its sporty pretence.

    – The car really behaves like a racing car on this track. You don't notice that it's running on street tires: the car directly interpretes all commands of the driver onto the road. A huge compliment to the Porsche developers: this is a mixture which really makes me happy!

A moment of happyness which lasts on the Nordschleife for merely 8 minutes per lap, if you really push it.

    [music: push it good]

    – Let's say, I could spend 150,000 Euro. That would get me: one Ferrari F430. Or one Lamborghini Gallardo. Or a GT3, a Golf GTI and a nice motorbike.

    – In other words, 108,000 Euro for this jewel is a great offer, for a car which is at least equal to the Italian alternatives.

    [the end]
