Modern continental cars have a standard of 5 speed manual petrol and 6 speed manual turbo diesel… and diesel is very very popular in europe…

Automatic transmission might be a 4 or 5 speed… This is the standard for most new cars now…

According the pic of the gearknob, it seems that the way of engaging the reverse gear is similar to the way of doing it in a Proton Savvy (pull up and hold the hook, move to the left, and push upward) haha….

    Anyway,…………… 6 speed man!!!!!!

So what if it's launched in M'sia? People here know nothing about specs and crash test reports or whatsoever…. they will jsut get anything with the propeller badge. 10000000% SURE this renault will fail here, not because it weren't a great car, but because of M'sians idiocy. Just take a look at the Citroen C4, it's in every way better than a Civic. BUT? You guess it, Civic gets COTY, people buy it like loads.

Well i like Renault car's.. but it is $$$.. Is is usual with car's 6-speed in Europe.. Even auto's are going to 6-speed like Golf GTI DSG gearbox.. The more gear ratio the more lower RPM when getting high speed.. So it cuts the emission less then normal 5-speed gearbox.. read the 8-speed auto just below the forum, you may get the idea?

ingolstadt, malaysians are not an idiot lot.

Of course Europeans models are superior to their japanese counterparts in every angle (maybe except for reliability). The price may be pricier to justify their superiority. But how bout the long run maintenance cost? Even for a Pug 406, after 7 years of ownership, the owner has to spend RM5K to RM10K a year just to repair & replace the parts.

If the parts are manufactured here, easily available and sold at low cost, I'm sure our roads will be filled with european cars instead of japs. That would be true if Mahathir seek partnership with Pug instead of Mitsu as proton's partner 25 years ago.

Looking good from the pics, althought the isolated steering pic strangely reminds me of a decapitated head. For the first time, I like wood in the interior, it looks good with the silver finish, like some modern furniture!

i think maybe Tan Chong is trying to show that they are not inactive anymore. As us know , Tan Chong is very inactive in last year,2006. Renault now are only able maximun 4 cars . So, it can be Tan Chong very hardworking to get the 'heart' of Renault international. I think tis Renault Laguna is good to be break the market of Camry & Accord if the price is suitable between RM160,000 and RM200,000. Hope Tan Chong will not put up the price so high same with NIssan Teana.
