New Volvo S80 T6 AWD

Volvo has added a new variant to it’s line-up of the Volvo S80 – the Volvo S80 T6 Turbo AWD. The T6 Turbo engine variant is slotted in between the normally aspirated 3.2 litre inline-6 aluminium engine and the 4.4 litre normally aspirated Yamaha V8 engine.

With a displacement of 3.0 litres, it makes 285 horsepower and 400Nm of torque from as low as 1,500rpm, remaining constant throughout the rev range. This is thanks to a twin-scroll turbo, fed by two streams of exhaust gas from two banks of 3-cylinders each. It is less complicated than a twin turbo setup but offers similar benefits.

All Wheel Drive comes standard with this new S80 variant, using an electronically controlled hydraulic clutch to distribute drive between the front and rear wheels. The AWD system features something Volvo calls Instant Traction, which shifts power at lightning speed from the front to the rear wheels when starting on a slippery or loose surface.

The front changes are hardly visible, bt my God, that rear light is absolutely seductive….reminds me of when I 1st saw the Merc CLS.

400 Nm at 1500 rpm!!! will be a gem to drive at the traffic lights. of course there is no fighting the american V8 petrol guzzlers but here in Malaysia it will definitely be a fast luxury cruiser if you can get over the need to own a benz or BMW for prestige

Well volvo cars are famous for their safety.. even our safety belt's are used by them for the first time.. this turbo is really fascinating.. 2 turbo in one? Wow.. this save spaces.. but the turbo must be very hot and large.. Anyways i support this engine compare to V8.. more better emission and easy torque at low rpm.. Hope the gearbox don't failed me.. Volvo transmission is not the best.. but they invented the smallest gearbox in the world to fit on his new 6-inline engine.. Hmm.. hope it's AWD is better to cover the torque.. Hope it can be my family car in my dreams… Haiz.. sure $$$… hopefully to see his future new XC90..

The old T6 had torque steer to deal with driving the front wheels, AWD should help.

Also having seen the car in real life, it looks small and not as imposing, unlike the previous S80.

A 285 horsepower and 400Nm of torque from as low as 1,500rpm and remains constant throughout the rev range will do Volvo good. Plus a better 'butt job' here (I know volvo will hardly go for any 'nose job' in terms of how the car looks) is something worth considering.

Good package, if they do that with the S60 too, I bet those will fly off the showrooms in no time.
