From a quick scan of the results, it seems that most winners are either performance engines or low FC engines. So Nissan would lose on both counts. My Cefiro V6 is neither a powerful and high-torque car nor is it frugal fuel drinker.

But it is quiet that you can't hear a peep from the engine unless you push the pedal.

Go figure.

transformer,

PSA Peugeot-Citroen did win a few awards which i'm glad they did. PSA has been perceived as underperforming for quite awhile (their own mistake). Where is the 205gti successor, we asked?? Damn it.

did the many abbreviation and name of Peugeot-Citroen play trick on you?

note: 205gti hard facts (many variants. powerful one are weighted less than 900kg with approx. 130bhp). PSA even have similar lightweight road-legal 205 t16 with 200PS which equivalent to ~ 200bhp ! Now thats the mother of all hothatch! Sadly its nothing but a distant memory.

tokmoh, give perodua a break la.. do you know how much an all aluminium engine would cost to manufacture? even if they did include the engine into the new car, the cost will sky-rocket.

besides that, do you think that tiny 1 litre engine won its class because of flair, and soul? i think not.

Wonder why new Viva won't get the 1.0 L from Toyota......they can advertise more: Equipped wit an award winning engine!!

Obviously, being a car manufacturer with no soul, no flair n no passion, what do they care?

being smooth, quiet and vibration free definitely isn't enough to get an engine rated as one of the best engines in the world.

glad to see the bmw 6cyl NA engine is still highly regarded. one of my all time favourite engines.

once saw a family sitting in their car. cefira brougham... the driver seat was vacant... and i was like.. "wtf...these ppl sitting in the car waiting for the guy without starting the engine...wanna choke to death ka??"...

then sudenly...the guy just open the driver's door...get in and drove away... the engine is already running... and i tot it's not...

super best engine...

It's just a matter of the comittees that made up the consortium of EOTY, if it were Americans, I'm sure many would rate the LS7 high for it's simplistic design, easy dismantling and essembling (Americans like custom modification, custom in the sense they do it themselves) and the very reliable and strong block, coupled with the pushrod design, which doesn't need timing belt, or chain or camshafts, this engine is small (weighs almost the same as Mazda MX-5's 1.6 engine, but it's essentially a 7.0 liter engine, no camshaft, lower center weight. Americans don't care much about displacement for their tax rates weren't CC but weight of the car. Hence a 7.0liter with almost the fuel consumption of BMW's 5.0 liter, coupled with the weight of a 1.6 liter engine, and the reliability of the engine, it's a masterpiece where many sophisticated european engines can't match in robustness and customizability.

"Toyota’s 1.0 liter engine in the Aygo and it’s french brothers the C1 and the 107 makes 67bhp and 93Nm at 3,600rpm, figures that are not bad at all for a 1.0 liter car. It is known to be the lightest combustion engine on sale today, weighing only 69kg thanks to special weight-saving construction. The engine is all-aluminium, and the throttle body and fuel pipe is made out of resin instead of metal."

Engine only 69kg? tats less tan wat i weigh!

The 4-cylinder 1.0 VVT-i engine was replaced by the 3-cylinder engine, also found in the Toyota Aygo and Daihatsu Sirion.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Vitz
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_KR_engine

The engine system still use the same, VVT-i but the engine is lightweight.. So conclusion is that this engine is newer a bit then our myvi.. Maybe look at viva and see.. the engine code is 1kr-Fe,designed by Daihatsu, which is a subsidiary of Toyota. The 1KR series uses aluminium engine blocks and DOHC cylinder heads. It also uses SFI fuel injection, and has 4 valves per cylinder with VVT-i.

The 1KR-FE is a 1.0 L (998 cc) version built in Japan and Poland. Bore is 71 mm and stroke is 84 mm, with a compression ratio of 10.5:1. Output is 67 hp (50 kW) at 6000 RPM with 68.6 ft·lbf (93.0 N·m) of torque at 3600 RPM. Carbon emission levels are 109 g/km.

The number of BMW engines winning shows how good they're are, and leading in front of Benz. I wonder what happen to engines from other former competitors: Alfa's T-spark, and Nissan's VQ V6.
