Increasing demand for diesel-burning Toyota cars in the European market has prompted isuzu to build a new plant in Japan to increase supply to keep up with demand. The new US$110.5 million plant in Hokkaido is set to be completed by 2012, and will make up to 200,000 units of a new 1.6 litre turbodiesel engine a year.
Japanese newspaper Nikkei reports that this new 1.6 litre turbodiesel engine will be jointly developed by Toyota and diesel-experts Isuzu, and will be used in C-segment cars like the Toyota Corolla for the European market.

A 1.6 TDI… should hv good road tax rate, good torque in city & highway drive, not high speed…. BTW, they should get this into a van/MPV when this section of cars need good torque to carry goods & ppl around. Like the C22… thsy still ues a 1.5 petrol if put in the 1.5 TDi ie some thing from kangoo… that will the good.
if they sell it in m'sia only say .
Vote for Diesel for the upcoming elections and we'll deserved it(Diesel) !
Or else…… Euro2 Petrol ! after 2020 would only reach Euro4…
why not concentrate more on diesel hybrids? can be done right?
Someone above said malaysia will have biodiesel production in 5 years? Wrong, actually we already have working biodiesel plants, and they are making biodiesel for export purpose only.
If according to plan, we are suppose to mandate 5% biofuel in diesel in 2008 by mixing 5% palm oil into diesel(Envodiesel), note, palm oil only, not biodiesel, and this plan not even garentee will succeed or not due to the current soaring price of palm oil. The european get all the good stuff we get the vegetable oil. Malaysian still too poor to affort biodiesel.
And whats amusing is, besides those jokes like diesel road tax and euro standard, malaysia goverment only porpose biofuel policy by ignoring the majority user that is petrol users, they only care about making more money with palm oil.
And about all those nice nice car into malaysia, be it running diesel or petrol, most of us will be barricaded(protected) by a thick layer of absolute absurd tax.
good news (not for the user):
another good chance to gain easy profit for GLC to resell their bio-diesel AP on hand…
bad news (for u and me):
expensive bio-diesel after few hands of AP…
I dont think the Government knows anything about diesel, biodiesel, their benefits or even about global warming.
Tell me, what happen to the diesel talk that they agreed too not too long ago?
The government is better at telling fibbers and also at complaining about their oppositition.
What is so difficult to have two grades of diesel fuel?????? Let the factories, fisherman's boat, what other shite use the low grade diesel, and give the consumers a better grade diesel at a slightly increased price.
