I was told it's not a prototype GTi, it does however have a VW 1.8L turbo engine in it. Prolly as a engineering/design study for the potential new owners. The engine bay was heavily modified to accomodate the new engine. Thats about it. About them red callipers, they have to go for aftermarket brake kit in order to stop the car properly.

Indeed it's a prototype of Neo GTi..

Don't be suprised that the engine used for this proto model came from Audi TT(Told by T.Djan)… The rims are Enkei 17inch.. I've saw myself this car during my visit to R3 Factory in Shah Alam..

The wheel arch cover looks a bit too big for my taste. The front bumper looks like a re-designed R3 bumper to accommodate the front intercooler. Why donâ€™t they design a new bumper altogether and make it stand out. Not an R3 looking GTiâ€™s? But, Audiâ€™s 1.8 Turbo is probably one of the engine that they have tested on the Neo. There are probably other engines too. And what happen to the last segment of the Campro series? I thought Proton said they could produce up to 2.0 liter capacity out of the same engine?

Neo + 2 litre Campro (with CPS & VIM) + Kleemanâ€™s charger or make it twin charger like the VW. This sounds more original to me.

Or Neo + 1.8 Turbo (TTs) with DSG. Hmmm…yummy!

Hello, the Audi 1.8 Turbo engine got how many max. HP, eh? And how many NM of max. torque?

I'm sure the Neo GTI is going to be a direct competitor to the Golf GTI and Civic Type R in terms of performance, if it ever comes out.

would be impressive if they could deliver a 1.8 litre turbo unit from a good engine manufacturer. i wouldnt bet on it being an audi tt engine. impossible even if audi had a controlling stake in proton and desperately wanted to boost sales of which they wont have to.

agree with you paul.. the turbo is pretty small, and it spools up so quickly, you dont even really realise you're driving a turbo sometimes, but a big n/a instead.

Even with a 1.8 Turbo, I'm sure it's not responsive below the 3K rpm range, due to the weight of that thing and turbo lag. If they tune the turbo to overcome the problem, well, i don't think the peak power is impressive. They need a 2.0 there. Maybe with N/A and Turbo? BTW I hope they don' come up with a cabriolet, it'll lokk like a big fatt boat!!! Price, I think they might almost hit the 90K mark

the engine is 1.8 turbo,

not a proton or mitsu engine,

wheelarch is correct, with mushroom bolts like current GTi,

Front bumper is correct, but with masking on center, the sides is unmasked.

Rear spoiler is same as the desire concept.

Wheels is 17"

the prototype has been running for more than 3 years all over the world (UK, Spain, Sweeden etc…)

Hope that it would be launched as planned next year…

keyboard.rosak, how sure are u that proton is going Audi TT's engine? Its a bit expensive that the VW FSI and TS engines, and definitely the car will not going to be cheap. I don't think Proton is going to put VW family engines in the Neo GTi, as its not cost effective at the moment.

If from AUDI TT, then we got good news! VW is coming near! AUDI is one of VW companies.. If they tested the engine on it, then this might be true that VW has signed and they are already testing it on our cars with their technology! Hope that this is real!

this picture is definitely from Proton RnD in Shah Alam, to be specific the power train dept, recognize the building, done my industrial internship there.

i think they still building the prototype, not for production yet.

from what i heard, the engine is gonna be 1.8L turbo from Audi TT

Perhaps people will think I'm a Proton supporter but I'm not. I don't want to see any car manufacturer closing factory. In my post "Ford might sell Jaguar and Land Rover", I said it. Skoda and Seat also didn't do well because of producing lousy and no quality cars before VW took over. Now you can see how well are the products from these two companies. Right?

If VW takes over Proton see what happen next? If they are doing well, why ask Proton to close if you can get Proton car, with Lotus Ride and Handling plus VW quality? If they still losing money….well, err…. no need for me to continue. VW fault or Proton? Then…decide.

Just forget about the picture above for a while. I just think that Proton Satria Neo GTi might come out with two variants, 1.8 litre DOHC In-line 4 from Mitsubishi or CAMPRO with or without CPS & VIM, and one with Kleemann Supercharger engine not Turbo charged engine.

However, I hope Proton doesn't come out / launching this low volume product for now. What should they do is to launch high volume products such as the Proton Gen.2 facelifted model and Proton Gen.2 Sedan as we saw the spy shots before as soon as possible with quality issues fixed. The current Proton Waja, Savvy and Satria Neo have better build quality.

Proton "promised" to launch 2 new high volume models before the 2007 financial year end. So, I don't think we will see Satria Neo GTi that soon. What I want to see now is:

1) The talk between Volkswagen and Proton end with good news.

2) 2 new upcoming models as I mentioned above have good build quality and safety features that other car manufacturers offer….optional at least….plus good priced….

Well, let's see what happen….Cheers always….
