Volvo fans were disappointed when Volvo announced earlier that it would drop it’s R performance car series, with cars like the 850R and the recent S60 R being the latest of it’s kind. It recently announced the R alphabet would be brought back again, but not as a line of performance cars, but instead a line of sporty aesthetics-focused bodykits.
Not particularly exciting, but here are the first in a line of R-DESIGN parts. They are for the Volvo C30, S40 and V50 platform sharing trio and include R-DESIGN badges on the grille and steering wheel, as well as a full bodykit with rear roof spoiler, five-spoke alloy wheels in both 17 and 18 inch sizes and an R-DESIGN interior.

maybe its just like TRD. just giving sporty bodykits firstto baseline cars to gauge public reaction. move on to engine and other performance parts if the market conditions favour it.
that t5 engine in the ford focus and the c30 is no slouch. problably dont need these go fast aesthetics.
Cool
M-Sport , R Design , R3(included),
capture the market more of its sporty look, minimally on the performance itself,
anyway volvo is the most R design rather subtle, i think,
I prefer engine performance more then styling.. Styling hurt a lot of weight man.. especially those 17', 18' inch rims..
Volvo's R are meant for Performance at olden days…
quite sad that Volvo had chosen to use R for aesthetics mods…
V70R T5 with High Pressure Turbo were my love! that boxy ones… SEXY !
too fast preview.. i tot is re-design, but notice actually is R-design.. haha..
for me.. do not noticed significant changes for the R-design parts..
it seem normal mayb currently local car also having many and many bodykit too..
what's the point? if i wanted a sports saloon, i'll buy a bmw, but if i want a boxy wagon, i'll have a volvo
Somehow, I feel that Volvo cannot get it's act together. Volvo used to be known for it's innovative safety features, but since others have improved and even exceeded Volvo's features, the brand has almost remianed stagnant in that aspect.
It has toyed with performance models by going the turbo way, but it's normally aspirated engines are nothing to shout about.
I feel that Volvo should go back to it's original business model, ie to build safe, reliable and comfortable cars for the family. The XC90 is a fine example, as in the US, most of the XC's are driven by housewives and working mothers. Their station wagons are legendary, in terms of chic design and functionality.
In Malaysia, it dabbled in local racing (and was quite successful too) many many years ago in GP's which were held in section 14 PJ and Shah Alam, and they were also active in the BTCC series, but they did not carry through that ambition. I think it was due to budget constraints. So, maybe doing away with the 'R' is a good strategic move.
eh? the pics don't match. one shows auto gear but the pedals are clearly for a manual?
nice bodykit but yeah i agree not too exciting. one thing i can't understand is why some cars have accelerator hanging from the top while some are from the bottom of the footwell upwards. i feel the latter is more comfortable to drive over long distances.
nothing special and attractive at all.. just… too typical… moderate.. nothing…
mix feelings.
hahahahaha… so obviously when new topic posted were not proton's story no body wants to comment… dunno la malaysian people loves to bash own product but not the foreigner..
haha..agreed that mr.proton:)
anyway..from my thought, does it better R3 than this R-design..bcoz they made not just exterior & interior, but under the hood too..is it true Paul?
correct me if i'm wrong…
r3 does some external tweak, stage 2 perhaps sport cam (buy separately as r3 merchandise) which can be aquired from other product as well,
(if im not wrong)
anyway these are bit of 'syok' without being too hardcore in motoring.
