Paul said DaimlerChrysler because they don’t actually sell Chrysler yet. But if they do, the company will be only known as Daimler AG, not Daimler-Benz.

BMW outsold MB in total volume of cars worldwide for the past few years but made much less profit than MB. They probably spent too much on R&D updating and upgrading their engine line-up and other techs so frequently. Though this will benefit the customers but in the long run they will lose out to companies like lexus which make a real fat margin in each car.
I think MB will benefit more from the R&D JV. too bad that they are not interested.

To the Unicons, I understand what you are trying to say. However my point is that I’d like to see them compete rather than coorperate for various reasons. I admire both marques as they have good track records and solid history. I also admire them because both are reputable automotive giants and successful, which indirectly move the auto industy and the rest of the players.

though i like bmw more i think its a wise move from merc to limit the amount of cooperation as i think benz have spent alot more money and effort on things like comfort and safety no sense to let someone come in and benefit from ‘cooperation’.

bmw is facing 2 fronts of attack from audi and benz of which both are eating into thier 3 series market and performance cars. benz is on a roll at the moment.

To waimak. As I said increase cooperation will reduce the costs which is good thing as we all know the role material prices really increasing. Every car manufacturers for sure really surfer as they are trying to price their cars not too much then older models and lastly the make less money. The cons is that with the technologies sharing in the R&D, those car manufacturers (especially those giants) will some how lost some of their individual pattent or copyrights of particular technologies.

Just remember, many and more and more car manufacturers are working together to develop new technologies or in a particular car models to reduce the cost as the costs to develop new cars and technologies increasing a lot – increasing of role materials prices is one of them. If not they might end up with losing money or making less profit then ever before which is bad news for them (including all other industries not only in automobile).

Bad news for BMW. Last year BMW net profit fall even though their cars sold well. The reason is the increases of role material prices. Since Mercedes Benz rejected for the increase cooperation with BMW in efforts to reduce R&D costs, perhaps BMW will find other car manufacturers for the cooperation.
