Yakcop: Car Scrapping Policy not approved

YakcopSecond Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop says the government has not approved the voluntary car scrapping policy for cars over 15 years of age, as opposed to what The Edge reported previously.

“No, we have not approved such a proposal. The report is not correct. There may be some studies on this subject but at this point there is nothing,” he said.

The Edge reported that the policy would be announced by the time the new national budget is announced by mid-September, so there is still some time of slightly less than two months for it to happen.

Bullshit. In no time they’ll yet again use money taken from us citizens to be plonked into Proton to make sure the directors have enough $$$ to buy themselves Maseratis and Ferraris.

RM5000? And then Proton? Voluntary? Paid by Government?

Proton spent millions trying to re-brand themselves using advertising and marketing – which is good, then the government budget aside another possible billion to continue spoiling Proton’s image.

And in the end Malaysians are paying for it.

Proton had done too much of damage to Malaysia that I had to blame Mahathir’s parent’s for shagging that mystical night back in 1924.

Malaysia have more bodoh policy than this.NAP, AP, etc. more worse than this. Speeding fine RM300, but sms while driving RM200, sure they say RM1.2k but then chagned to RM200. Which is more dangerous, sms while driving or speeding

    I don’t know.

Maybe the Edge got it wrong…maybe the Govn’t backtracked after the Edge report.

This close to election time, they will probably not do (or say) anything drastic. Trying to save thier butts.

After that, well, thats anyones guess.

Thanks to the Minister for not approve this proposal!

To solve proton problems by scrapping old car will not help, proton problems should be solve from it’s root cause – that is inefficiency in the
    business.

B4 the government even consider a car scrapping policy, shouldn’t they first ensure that the infrastructure to support such a policy is in place first?

There are many different components in a car, with different handling requirements. For example, the engine and gear box is filled with lubricants, that can easily spill and pollute the environment. The seats, door trim, dashboard etc has plastics, foam etc that will release toxic fumes if burned. Residual fuel in the tanks are a fire hazard.

Surely, they don’t expect our horrible ‘recycling yards’ and ‘kedai potongs’ to handle such high volume of old cars for scrap??

Come on… be realistic.. can most msian afford to throw away something that was worth RM40,000 in average after 15 years ?

Some of us even still using (or having) those TV, cassette player, video player, table lamp, beds which are over 10 years old. These are a few hundred to thousand RM stuffs only, and we are still keeping them.
