Magna might assemble new MINI SUV

MINI ColoradoCanada’s Globe and Mail newspaper reports that BMW AG is current in talks with Canadian automotive supplier Magna International for the latter to build the upcoming MINI Colorado SUV at Magna’s plant in Graz, Austria.

Magna’s Austrian plant currently assembles the BMW X3, but it did not manage to get the contract for the next generation BMW X3 as BMW decided to build it at it’s own plant in South Carolina – a big loss for Magna as the current X3 accounts for 45% of the plant’s total output, or 113,000 units.

No further details are revealed except for estimated production numbers – around 65,000 annually. BMW currently makes all of it’s MINI models at it’s MINI Production Triangle in the UK, consisting of three plants – Oxford, Swindon and Hams Hall.
