Toyota has launched a new JDM-only SUV for the Japanese market called the Toyota Vanguard. The new mid-sized SUV is based a long wheelbase version of the third generation Toyota RAV4, but features 7-seats with an electrically foldable third bench.

Two engine options are available – a 170 PS 2.4 litre 2AZ-FE mated to a Super-CVT-i continuously variable transmission, and a top of the range 280 PS 3.5 litre 2GR-FE V6 mated to a 5-speed Super ECT gearbox. The inline-4 engine makes 224Nm of torque at 4,000rpm while the V6 puts out 344Nm of torque at 4,700rpm.

All variants come with Toyota’s Active Torque Control 4WD system which works hand in hand with the Vanguard’s S-VSC (Steering-assisted Vehicle Stability Control) system to keep its 7 passengers safe if you happen to lose control of the car.

Looks too tame. Can’t they come out with a fresh approach that is more articulate. Nissan designs are even better.

littlefire, the normal design cycle from paper to final product for any vehicle is typically 2 years. that would mean this car was probably designed on paper late 2005. at that time, no one will know how the new santa fe looks, or vice versa.

Well, the Hyundai santa fe model come out faster then Toyota, and i just say got some similarity.

I don’t think Toyota need 2 years time to come out production… They have the most advance factory system in this international market… even 1 year they can done it, coz they are good in sharing plat form, engines and interior material. I think the most they need to work is the exterior new design + the dashboard. So for a large company like Toyota, do u think he will waste so much time and money for his designers? Have u read the Toyota way book before?

when will UMW bring this in to replace that bumpy Fortuner!!

Vanguard monocoque are better than Fortuner ladder derived from Hilux Vigo….

UMW Toyota is going to bring into Malaysian market the long wheelbase version of RUSH /BEGO which currently in production phase at ADM Indonesia.Tentatively it would be in December this year. The car might brings the RUSH name.

And i also heard that Perodua would introduce the new Kembara replacement somewhere in the 1st Quater of 2008.I am quite curious of how the car would looks like and i don’t think it will be based on Daihatsu Bego albeit Kembara was based on Terios since UMWT will be selling the RUSH.Or perhaps Perodua will cater on the shorter version ?…I have no idea.Better not speculate further.
