My statement wrong? US market are 1 of the most selling sport car in the world. California is just a state, well how about others? If i not mistaken some country take it as 2.6L... I think the spec in US have more output then the JDM. Check for it man... The JDM some may have turbo or supercharge, but those are not factory fitted. If US are so strict, why does bush don't want to sign the environment agreement? And still supporting the GM & Ford to produce big block engine? Anywayz i just mention IF!

littlefire85, that is a wrong statement if you're saying that the rx8 and mx5 sold more in usa because their emission regulation is not too strict. in fact, the regulations in california is the strictest in the world, thanks to CARB. if you can sell a car in california, you can practically sell it anywhere. for the rx8, the power output for usa model is different from the jdm model because of the stricter regulations. i can still remember when the car first launched there, the customers were crying foul when independent dyno test revealed that the cars were producing less than advertised horsepower, which prompted mazda to offer customers to buy back their car or some discounts if what i am remembering is correct. besides in us, for the fuel consumption of a 1.3L rotary engine will probably be considered ok because they are used to the big v8 engine. also in usa, there is tax that you have to pay according to your car's fuel consumption, can't remember what is the name of the tax.

I really scare of the emission regulation... Normally if the car FC really worst.. the emission will fail & cannot be sale in their country. Coz some country may think that this 1.3L engine category really drinks water... That why RX-8 & MX-5 sells more in foreign country, especially US market...

New RENESIS II will be on new 4th gen Mazda RX-7, not on RX-8.

Sport car not always consumed much on petrol. RX-8 average can get around 7 to 8km per liter, I don't think it has high FC. When you have a car with more than 200hp, you still expect it would have FC like 1.5L car?

I guess the new 4th gen RX-7 is on 1.5L RENESIS II with about 300hp.

Exciting news indeed! We can only wonder what will be the output of the new engine if they are already milking so much power out of the 1.3L! I don't think I'll be wrong to label the 13B as an engineering marvel, alongside the legendary RB26DETT, after all, it's been powering generations of rotary rockets and putting much larger engines to shame in the process. This is the little engine that could. A diesel rotary might be reality one day too, considering most automakers are going that way.

Well.. in the previous RX-7 the rotary engine really drink fuel like water.. but in the RX-8 they manage to redesign the engine to more better FC, that why they name is the first generation of renesis engine.. Dont believe? check for wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_Wankel_engine

"The RENESIS engine – also 13B-MSP, for Multi Side Port –, which first appeared in production in the 2003 Mazda RX-8, is an evolution of the previous 13B. It was designed to reduce exhaust emission and improve fuel economy, which were two of the most recurrent drawbacks of rotary engines."

"These and other innovative technologies allow the RENESIS to achieve 49% higher output and dramatically reduced fuel consumption and emissions (the RX-8 meets LEV-II). It won International Engine of the Year and Best New Engine awards 2003 and also holds the "2.5 to 3 liter" size award for 2003 and 2004, where it is considered a 2.60 L engine. Finally, it was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2004 and 2005.

The RENESIS has also been adapted for a dual-fuel use, allowing it to run either on gasoline or hydrogen."

C'mon, wankel/rotary engines are designed to be smooth and hi-rev, that's y it's only used in performance cars (Mazda 787B, Le Mans winner), and RX-7s and 8s. If u want good FC, get a Lexus instead for that kind of money

Hope the new Renesis 2 engine will not exceed 2.0L... road tax is expensive in Malaysia... Hopefully it is better FC then it's predecessor..

I agree with what nobodyatuk said. Mazda makes great cars and they have brave and creative people.

However, Mazda is partly owned by Ford, not GM.
GM is a louzy company, example of what they've done is shown in suzuki, isuzu, and subaru.
subaru never manage to update their car impreza chassis under GM.
Izusu, suzuki is selling cheaper and lower quality cars than ever before, they are on par or less than Korean cars now.

Mazda is always a good car and getting better each time. If VW can revive Proton like what GM did to Mazda, can't see why there shouldn't be any collaboration.
