New concept based on 1-Series at Tokyo

BMW LogoBMW will be exhibiting a new concept vehicle at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show next week, but nothing else has been revealed about the new concept car other than the fact that it will be based on the BMW 1-Series platform.

A new small 3-door SUV called the BMW X1 perhaps? We will just have to wait for next week’s motorshow to see.

I can only think it must be an M1 – the question now is will it be a mega hot 1 series coupe or a proper replacement for the original?

proton.GL – they had the same problem when the introduced the E46 M3 – nobody in Motorsport wanted to call it M3 as it clashed with the legend E30 and it very nearly got called 330CSi (which probably suited the nature of the car better) but the marketing boys won out in the end and we got the M3

I think the same could happen here, the need to market the 1 Series with an M flagship will win over the people who want to preserve history – we’ll see :)
