Haldex is not a VW product. It is a swedish company that VW group uses. Borg-Warner 4WD is good(i have a 2008 Santa Fe) but it could be better, that`s why Hyundai-Kia group signed up a contract with Haldex to fit the Haldex XWD system in the new Santa Fe,the new i30,i40,cee`d,sorento and others, This will be on the market not earlier than 2011. Until then they will continue using Borg-Warner.

to me, 4wd for road cars is a marketing tool for europe. when you look at the list of cars mentioned above, they are all european cars, and for some of them, the 4wd variants are not even sold in asia.

AYC is not a 4wd system. mitsubishi has their own system. AYC is the advanced traction control system that mitsu has, and developed thru the experiences in rallying.

borgwarner still supplies trannies, and so do many other companies out there. but this is a 4wd system, not a gearbox.

buying an existing component to bolt unto your cars is not "leaps and bounds". its just shows you the variety in hyundai's product portfolio. they can also afford to do this because they sell so many different types of cars in so many parts of the world. It wont make sense for a small company like proton to do this as the cost would be very expensive.

Don't think it will be useful to proton. 2WD is cheaper to run

somehow I have this feeling that this kind of "bolt-on" awd is an easy way out for manufacturers who don't have a proper rear drive platform, but want to give their econobox front drive platform a bit of "prestige". Come on, lets build a proper rear drive andput the engine in north-south orientation like it always should be. Yes alfa, you too!
