Wheel jack recall for GEN2 and Satria Neo

Advertisement

Proton has just announced a recall for a certain wheel jack supplied with Proton GEN2s since January 2004 to date, and Proton Satria Neos since April 2006 to date.

If you have a bronze/gold-ish jack (as opposed to a blue jack), please do bring it in to any authorized Proton service branch to get a free replacement. All you need to do is to bring your jack and your vehicle registration card with you.

Call Proton i.Care at 1300-880-888 for more info.

    No idea. Maybe it refers to manufacturing date? First batch might have already been manufactured in late April or something.

    Of course. This wont cause Proton any money, just some paperwork possibly.

    The defective parts will be claimed from the manufacturer of the jacks.

    I’m sure someone has been injured due to bad jacks for this sort of recall.

    Public service announcement : Always use jackstands if you are ever goign to craw under your car for whatever reason.

    hi, mine is the bronze colour jack… the steel from the jack became bent after 4-5 times usage… i think i’ve change my tyres around 4-5 times before the steel rod became bent…. need to borrow from my other car.. the thing is, i didn’t even bother to report it to proton…. but i did bought a new hydraulic jack instead…. so easy to use…
    i think its good that proton recall the jack… maybe i should just drop by proton edar and replace it for free..

    i think if u go to a proper driving school… they will teach u that everytime u want to change tyre, better put the spare tyre underneath the car.. or once u changed the tyre… put the punctured tyre underneath the car while u jacked the car up or down…. this is to cushioned the impact if lets say the jack failed…
    even if i’m driving a mercedes.. i would still do the same thing… its common sense..

    Sub-standard materials, sub-standard product, from sub-standard vendor. Pity the qualified vendor which cannot get the contract due to politics.

    i think its great news that proton is willing to make a public recall for such a small item as a jack which is technically not even related to the car at all. shows that they are getting serious about their customers.

    azrai, are there such things as “qualified” vendors? i believe any company today that exists in malaysia who are supplying car manufacturers today started out with proton. do you think someone would just start a company manufacturing car jacks for no reason? if the company didnt get a job, who did he sell his jacks too?

    The automotive industry is a banana industry — you don’t sell ripe bananas, you sell them slightly green so that they become ripe with the customer. Everyone does a recall once in a while — Lexus included. It means only one thing — that manufacturers are human, and human make mistakes.

  20. 4G63T DSM says:

    @tanasi

    How true.

    Recalls are the norm of the automotive industry.

    The difference is this;

    A good manufacturer recalls products that the general user doesn’t know there is a fault there.

    A bad one, only recalls them when there is a general outcry from the public. (or doens’t at all even acknowledge the faults of its product)

    Perhaps this one incident puts Proton in the first catagory. Hopefully they can continue doing so for the sake of its own survivability. However, most Proton owners are stung before (and I might add BADLY). We have years since complaint about badly put together cars with cheap substandard parts. Complaints that have fell on deaf ears in Proton Management.

    Only now perhaps does Proton get a clue of what is going on when thier cars aren;t sellign despite the protection that is still in place. Perhaps only now they are going something about it now.

    Consumers will always vote with thier money. Our extended family has 8 protons at one time or another. Not even one will ever purchase a new Proton again, at least in the foreseeable future.

    Its going to be tough for Proton to change that sort of perception, but I suppose this is a start.

  21. tanasi says:

    I agree. If I have the money, I probably have sold my Wajunk and buy a Toyota instead.

    But I don’t, and as long as my financial health is not that of millionaire level Protons will always be in my radar for future car purchase.

    And for that reason, I think this sort of recall, no matter how small or insignificant some may think, is still an important step for Proton to not only woo new customers, but regain the tattered trust from the existing customers.

    to better demonstrate thier commitment to quality. why not recall all the porevious proton’s that experienced window failure. and reimburse them on that. for the time you had to bring the car into inspection and replacing the window that breaks again after 1 week use and the frustration and time you have to take off from work nearly once every few weeks. and maybe the time you got fined by the police for not being able to wind down your window. or the times you had to open the car door to pay the toll.

    while it is not viable on the old wiras. why not give a 7 year guarantee on the window on thier new cars. and other cheap legendary parts that always break down right after repair.

    someone raised the argument on lexus. of course they will recall. they are toyota and are expected to be top quality and with a premium badge like lexus they will need to satisfy the more affordable people. so any small thing like creaking noises in the car they will recall. only thing im not sure is whether they refund the car money or fully repair the whole car extensively as these thing its not a simple thing such as replacing a part or tightening a nut bolt. you can bet they would be willing to send thier technitians to pick up the car and provide you with a courtesy car for temporary use.

    car jack. what a joke.
