Chrysler and Nissan enters Versa rebadging deal

small_logo_nissan.jpgChrysler and Nissan has entered a rebadging deal, which involves Chrysler selling the Nissan Latio (called the Nissan Versa in North America) with a Chrysler marque in South America. I’m not sure if the Latio/Versa/Tiida will be badged as a Chrysler or a Dodge.

Chrysler already has does rebadging in South America – Dodge-badged Hyundai cars. This is Nissan’s second cooperation with Chrysler, with the first being a transmission deal – Nissan’s Jatco has been supplying Chrysler with transmisisons since 2004.

Next up: Chrysler assistance for next generation Nissan pickups perhaps?

Another cost cutting strategy by the ailing US carmaker? Chrysler is really in need of a technical partner after DaimlerBenz abandoned them last year.

This is not crap, but look like “rebadging” is the jargon of the auto world.

How about Chinese Youngman rebadging Gen-2 to become Europestar RCR? Do it consider as crap? How about P2 and Naza?

Rebadging is better than “original but low quality”.

In value engineering perspective, the engineer fratenity termed it as “COST SAVING”.

The main different between “COST CUTTING” and “COST SAVING” are:

    1. Cost cutting – “cut and chop” anything and everything they can for the sake of minimize the cost or maximize the profits that may compromise safety, guality or other functional aspects.

    2. Cost Saving – through proper engineering review technics to study the design and production aspects to eliminate “unnecessary cost” but maintain the quality, safety or other functional aspects.

So, world class manufacturers like Toyota that enjoying economy of scales and technical superiority always adopt value engineering in their endeavor.

Aha, ha, ha, ………. this time no more layman term like “butt job aka kerja buntut” that supposed to be “re-engineered”.

I wonder why the Latio hatchback is sold much higher than the sedan here. I’m sure elsewhere, the Latio/Versa/Tiida hatch is priced lower than its 3box sibling.

In US, the base level Versa hatch is priced cheaper than the Jazz. For a B-segment car with big interior space and continental ride & handling, its quite a bargain. But here, so sad its priced near to C-Segment (Civic/Altis) level.

Tan Chong Motor should reduce it to Sentra price level. I don’t see much Latios on the road compared to the new vios.

Latio, City/ Jazz, Vios/Yariss all over priced ones.. buy an Elantra instead for less than RM 94k.. u’ll get a bigger classed car..
