Mitsubishi Prototype-S

Mitsubishi has revealed some details of the new 5-door hatchback that will be displayed at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show in March this year.

The car is called the Mitsubishi Prototype-S and is naturally based on the new Lancer family. Mechanical specifications include a 2.0 litre inline-4 DOHC MIVEC turbocharged engine putting out 240 PS and 343Nm of torque. This is mated to a Twin Clutch SST automated manual transmission that puts power to all four wheels via a full-time 4WD driveline which features Mitsubishi Motors’ Active Center Differential (ACD).

Active Center Differential (ACD) uses an electronically controlled multi-plate hydraulic clutch to optimally vary the front-rear torque split to different driving conditions and deliver the best balance between steering response and traction.

Loose 2 doors and perhaps finally something worthy to carry the Eclipse torch.

If they can make this, its not that difficult to make a coupe. I’ll be waiting.

personaly, I think it’ll be way better if it would come in the guise of a proper 4 seater coupe and the guys at Mitsu could also throw in a rear wheel biased AWD system, something like Subaru’s or Skyline’s/ GTR’s…… this concept already has a mean face (and firepower) all it needs now is a proper rear end.

It’s good to see that more and more performance cars are now coming with AMT. This will allow for optimal shifting speed, minimal engine-to-wheel loss, and ability to handle high power and torque that would fry ordinary automatic torque converters. Though all they have is an artist’s drawing, hope to see it in the flesh in another two months’ time!
