Toyota Sienta – compact JDM 7 seater MPV

Toyota Sienta

The Toyota Sienta is a compact 3 row 6/7-seater MPV sold in the Japanese domestic market. The word Sienta came from the Spanish word siete which means 7, combined with the English word entertainment. It is powered by the 1NZ-FE 1.5 litre VVT-i engine, producing 110 PS at 6,000rpm and 141Nm of torque at 4,400rpm, with the option for 4WD. The 2WD version is mated to a CVT transmission.

The compact MPV has a 2,700mm wheelbase, which is longer than the Toyota Avanza’s 2655mm and only 5cm shorter than the Toyota Innova’s 2750mm wheelbase. This should mean the interior space is actually quite decent. The rear uses sliding doors instead of normal doors, and the rear hatch is top-hinged.

This particular car was launched in 2003, and was facelifted in 2006. Following a normal 5 year Japanese model lifecycle, the Sienta should be retired in the JDM market by 2009, and replaced by a new model.

This is just a possibility and should not be taken for fact – considering Toyota’s penchant for efficiency, the Sienta could be recycled and adapted for sale in the ASEAN market, and could be the base for the new MPV being developed for production in Indonesia, as suggested by reader torishimeyakuin.

The car looks cheap in and out. Looks more like a daihatsu compared to toyota. Hope the replacement one is better designed.

    normaluser,

toyota or daihatsu it doesn’t matter..if under daihatsu badge it cannot sell, they’ll change it to toyota badge. I still remember what happened to Terios (Kembara) in Japan during late 90s it didn’t sell well. What the top people in Toyota group did was to change the car under Toyota badge, renamed as Toyota Camy.

Looks aside, I’d buy one solely for its practicality…

I read the reviews by Singaporean owners on this car, seems like a very practical car, with FC around 14km/L. 3rd row seat can be stored underneath 2nd row seat, creating large storage space, its also possible to fit a mountainbike behind with second row seat down.I hope the new perodua mpv or Avanza replacement can be something similar in terms of its practicality and design, maybe not looks wise though. Not sure if I’m allowed to post the links, here’s a forum discussing Sienta by Singaporean owners:

Agree with tokmoh…looks high probably perodua’s upcoming mpv from japan…since its going to reach 5yrs expire date, toyota will just let it live by transfer it to perodua…way to cut cost

this seems to be a practical yet simple MPV… the front shape reminds me of a Myvi… the headlights seems to go back to the old corolla version which was used in the 1998 WRC… it could be nicer if the headlights are changed… the center metre display is a big down for me…

Give to perodua, they will make it appealing, and more people will buy it over myvi

:-) If Perodua want to rebadged this, they can save a lot by recycling the mould for Kancil Mata Belalang front and just reuse it. It look cute but ugly. Yes ugly. Another juara in the making if it is so.

Why Toyota need to bring in this budget MPV to kill the best selling Avanza? If other manufacturer like honda bring in the “Mobilia” to complete with avanza then there will be a change to see this model in bolehland.

Avanza still the king of Budget MPV in bolehland not even Livina can beat them with the price below 70K range.

Toyota always ahead in marketing strategy as compared to other. They know your needs.

I know this is a bit late, but… cause the Avanza is a PoS. It’s horrible. The Sienta is a good car. Modern, the sliding doors are extremely practical (I know it, I drive a Kangoo) and open and close with the push of a button), the interior is very versatile, it drives ok.

It’s a lot like a Kangoo, just purely developed for families. It is also based on the Vios.
