BMW M1 Hommage Concept

BMW has unveiled its latest concept car, the BMW M1 Hommage Concept at the 2008 Concorso d’Eleganza at Villa d’Este, in honour of the BMW M1’s 30th anniversary.

The M1 Hommage Concept carries many of the styling cues of the old BMW M1 in the form of a modern interpretation, such as the rear windscreen louvers, the double BMW badges on the rear of the car, and even a wheel design that is a variation of the one used on the original BMW M1. The very slim headlamps still manage to feature some form of the BMW angel eyes.

This design study could hint at a possible revival of BMW’s only mid-engined car, perhaps powered by a variation of their venerable V10 engine, light pressure turbocharged to boost power output over the 600 horsepower regions.

There are many elements taken from the old M1. A bit futuristic for now. But still, it is a good exercise.

To me it looks more like a Ferrari from the 1980s. But if you look at closely at the details then it may be a little bit futuristic. Not from afar.

Truly an incarnation of teh defunct M1. Look too sharky in the front. I wish they design a little bit the headlamp. The current one look like a pair of EX5’s lamp.

That looks kind of sleek and futuristic. But I dont like the headlight’s design and too many sharp edges.

    =================================

Nope, Bmw calls the sporty versions of 1-series as simply M-sport.

I wondered the same thing too but it seems like Beemer aint coming out with an M car for the 1-series, and even if they do I doubt they’ll call it M1. That would be criminal!

i dont dig the rims. They should have stayed in the 80s. The color is too Ferrari. The design also tries to show too many things. The CS Concept was better.

Ahhh!! The classic BMW shark head profile is back. Sharp lines and all. The top deck of the back is a bit confusing, doesn’t really fit into the overall theme well. Is this a hint to the future direction of BMW styling?

what a beautiful car… the 1st pic (main thread pic) from that angle really awesome… but, as some already mentioned.. the rim looks too much like a spider web

looks like a cross between the original M1 and a Lambo Gallardo/ Murcielago…i like it!!

the rims looks hideous though…only the americans like that sort of design.

Wow, the mini Lamboghini reborn. Looks like the old Maserati Bi-Turbo and the Ferarri Testrarossa to me.

    Dont like it.

While it does look like the original M1, the design looks like something befitting a Vector. Doesn’t say anything about a BMW at all other than the nose.

I would love that BMW do a modern “bangle’dized” version of the Nazca C2 concept.

moonier, the original M1 was actually designed and built by Lamborghini. But Lambo went bust before it made to production.

Vector? Haha…bro…you’ve reminded me of that car. I remember drooling over that car in a car magazine many years ago where a topless girl posses next to it… or was it the girl? :p~ Now that you mention it, yeah, this M1 does resembles that too!

Looks nice but the front end wont pass current pedestrian impact rules (too sharp). That’s why current supercars are more rouded up front – look at Veyron
