Volkswagen Lavida

The Volkswagen Lavida is a Chinese market sedan developed entirely by Shanghai Volkswagen outside of Germany. The interior and exterior does not look very much Volkswagen at all, but the good news is you will find modern Volkswagen engines and 6-speed automatic gearboxes under its hood.

The Lavida measures 4,608mm long, 1,743mm wide, and 1,465mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,610mm. It’s sedan boot stores 472 litres. This makes it longer, sider and taller than the Volkswagen Jetta, but smaller than the Volkswagen Passat. It’s wheelbase is also longer than the Jetta’s 2,578mm.

    I’m with Azrai, looks a little Toyota’ish.

But its a well proportioned car. I wont be surprised if this shows up on our shores.

there’s nothing german at all in the design. german cars are known for taut, crisp and purposeful lines. but then again, this car is built for an asian country and frivilous asian tastes, i guess it is oklah in this context. but imho i personally think a vw should look like a vw. not a toyota or a nissan.

Agree with all of you here… personally, my view is VW shouldn’t even allow its badge to be on this car…

Even the bland looking VW Bora (Golf based saloon in mid/late 90s) have better lines/design than this Asian-inspired VW… it appears VW have turn back the clock and copy the Sentras, Corollas and may be they think this design will appeal to the China’s population more. Well, may be they could be right.

But from a car design perspective, it remains a DISASTER!!!

Orait ja wa tengok. Tak la uduh sangat. Ok apa design dia. Cuma lebih Asian sikit. Nak kata disaster tu tak la. C’mon la kawan… Pada-pada la kutuk. The design is not bad at all. It doesn’t look like Yugo or Zastava anyway… What about other Japanese or Korean manufacturers who appeared to be like ‘more European’? Kenapa korang taknak kutuk? Aparaa… Biar pi la kat Volkswagen depa nak try Asian design. What’s the hitch?

This car is exclusively for the China market, so I’m gonna make an exception here. When was the last time you ever seen a good looking China car that doesn’t look like a clone of another car (Frankenstein car)?

Agreed. It should not carry VW brand at the 1st place. It will tarnish VW image as a luxury car manufacturer, the effort that they has been trying hard and succeed. Now it look like they are moving backward again.

Why not they use Skoda brand instead?
