Mitsubishi Triton

Two new variants of the Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck wil be launched by Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia sometime in June 2008. Complementing the existing 2.5 liter 4X4 Triton double cab manual and automatic versions will be a 4X2 version of the 2.5 liter double cab model with manual transmission, and a 3.2 liter 4X4 double cab model with an automatic transmission.

The 2.5 liter 4X2 Mitsubishi Triton is estimated to retail at approximately RM60,000, while the 3.2 liter 4X4 automatic has an indicative price of about RM100,000. The exisitng Mitsubishi Triton 2.5 liter 4X4 goes for RM91,782.00 OTR with insurance for the automatic model, and RM86,782.00 for the manual model.

The 3.2 liter engine specifications have not been announced at the moment, but we can expect it to be similiar to the engine specifications of the 3.2 liter turbodiesel Triton in other countries. The inline-4 turbodiesel engine produces 158 horsepower at 3,800rpm, and 347Nm of torque from 2,000rpm.

Can’t depend on the fuel price to be like this forever. The 4×2 price is quite ok. Not to mention that it sheds several kgs over the 4×4.

great car! I wonder how long would the government could subsidize more diesel to us. By the way, our diesel fuel is still far back worst than Europe country.
When do government really look into this as well?

Any pics of the 4×2 version? The previous L200 4×2 looks more like a lowered ute like the ones you see from thailand. To be honest, it looks like a very skinny camel compared to the bull (4×4). I can’t imagine how does the new triton looked like if it is going to follow the same treatment.

wow 60K is unbelievale low !!

price too low, later no stock, or wait for 1 year ?? :)

60k for manual 2.5 Common Rail.

Looks like Isuzu needs to upgrades its old 2.5 non-common rail engine.

Well, good for the folks in Sarawak and Sabah because for 3.2, road tax still low.

Hm….Looks like these two models are aiming at Isuzu. Ha ha ha

The future for privately-owned pick-ups is bleak, I see. With the scrapping of subsidy, truck ownership would dwindle due to this.. There goes my hope of owning one.. T_T

RM60k for a turbodiesel! Hopefully it do not look like a skinny camel like someone mentioned above.

And how much would the 3.2L TD cost? It should have a pretty good demand at Sabah n Sarawak there!

4X2 is ok for city road, for rainy day need to more careful, because the rear wheel drive car like triton is very powerful, the car will very slice, I have a experience before, my triton is happend before, after i swith to 4wd, then everthing become ok.

RM60K is reasonable, but more intereting is 3.2 4X4, izit the triton “PLUS” from Thailand? wait & see.

The 4×2 for 2.5 should come with AT as well for city driving.

Please be careful with switching to 4×4 when driving on hard surface, even when raining. Unless Triton comes with central diff, driving with with 4×4 on hardsurface will put a lot of stress on the drive train or even end up with internal damages.

nice options and nice price…after this more people will afford to buy one, although its 4×2, it has 4×4 look hehhe unless they come out like the lowered thailand pickup

  17. adil2008 said,

izit come with 3 years free maintenance also? if yes, worth to buy.

Any “cruise control” for 3.2l version? This is the only factor preventing me from buying a Triton… Come on Mitsubishi… You can do it… ;)

at RM60k i would really be thinking of having 1. even though it’s just a 4×2 but hey it’s still a pickup :)

ala… 60K must be like the old time L200 low end version.
    sucks big time.

    don’t expect luxurious item then…

ya hamster you are right.. better book fast if really interested.
I don’t think it will be skinny camel just bec it is 4X2. It should be same body chasis.

I guess Hilux will soon intro 4X2 version as well ? :)

(in fact Fortuner has 4X2 version in Spore, which is lower price than 4X4 version)

We Sarawakians, being always on the “heavier” side of everything…..no matter whatever the outcomes….we still smile…:)and sure, with this kind of pricing,I believe many will get ( or try very very hard to get…)their hands on one..The price of diesel will go up (inevitably and sadly),adding to our already heavy burden here,But then…..That’s the way it is…..
A bit out topic, ehh? ha ha…but anyway, back to the TRITON,I really dont see many running around here,Hiluxes and Rangers dominated the scene, followed by D-Maxes in neighbouring Sabah, but i believe with the pricing of the 4X2 mentioned,I think D-Maxes will definitely start to find new marketing strategy for their 4X2s from now….
Being a former 4X4 owner,I welcomed such moves by ANY truck brands to LOWER their prices…to be more precise, make them CHEAPER laaa… kesian laa kita sini…dah laa minyak disel mahal…haaiyoo….

    ISUZU use timing gear
    FORD/MAZDA use Timing chain
Mitsu use what eh? I heard it’s Timing belt. Maintenance is high. But if this new engine is using Timing chain (atleast) then many ppl will consider it. Because triton already has the look. Imagine driving this triton in to the jungle… the stress on the engine is huge… the timing belt snapped!! Habis.
Timing Gear will not snap for sure.
Timing Chain not likely to snap either.
So, Paul can find out from Mit ppl about this?

4X2 version of the 2.5 liter double cab model with manual transmission

    IS THIS PETROL OR DIESEL?

  27. teohhc said,

This is going to blow competition away who is unlucky to be in this price range…not only pickup trucks but also other sedan cars. Never had a pickup before but at this price I certainly will go a test drive. Hope Mitsubishi doesn’t take away all the safety features and cool dashboard and other accessories.

For city slickers, 4×4 hardly used at all or off-road for that matter.
