Scirocco GT24 tops class in Nurburgring 24 hours

The 3 units of Volkswagen Scirocco GT24 race cars that participated in the recent Nurburgring 24 hours race managed to clinch the 11th, 15th, and 32nd place, not too bad for a vehicle that was developed, built and tested in two and a half months.

In the 2.0 litre turbocharged engine class, the three cars also claimed the first, second and fifth position, with the leading team comprised of Hans-Joachim Stuck, Jimmy Johansson, Florian Gruber and Thomas Mutsch. The second place car was piloted by Carlos Sainz, Giniel de Villiers, Dieter Depping, and Hans-Joachim Stock again.

Under the hood is a 325 PS version of the Volkswagen Group’s 2.0 litre TFSI engine, mated to a 6-speed DSG gearbox.

Stuck driving both cars?!, damn…respect. Driving one car is tough enough, double stinting 2 cars is crazy.

You would even be more amazed at the list of the winners. They are there with 911s and 997s. WITH Carlos Sainz losing a few minutes for running the yellow flag. But then again, were there any production teams in the race other than VW? Note also Porsche and VW is from the same holding company now. Now that’s total domination!

In 47th place is an Opel Manta. Which is the second placed manufacturer below BMW in the 24Hr series. Ironic, since the Germans would wish the Manta would be a forgotten favourite vehicle for transportation of hairdressers.

VW was in Class SP3T and car 118 is at the top of its class with 138 laps. Lexus LF-A was in SP8 ending up at number 7 in its class with 106laps. So the vedub lapped around the LF-A 32 times!!!!!

The Opel Manta did 126 laps. It’s no 4 in its class of SP3. What a joke.
