Perak to build “Volkswagen City”?!

Volkswagen LogoI have no idea what’s gotten into the people who run the Perak State Government’s heads… perhaps this is an attempt to woo Volkswagen back to Malaysia (and Proton). The Perak State Government announced today that it is going to set up a world class city in Perak and call it Volkswagen City. It will offer a “variety of services and products linked to the German automaker”.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said that the new Volkswagen City will be a tourist city catering to the increasing number of Volkswagen enthusiasts around the world, offering spare parts and exhibition galleries for the Volkswagen brand. As for where and when, Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar said the matter had not yet been discussed with the relevant parties.

Perak is also host to Proton City, a township located 5km north from Tanjung Malim. Proton City is home to industrial, commercial and residential properties including Proton’s car assembly plant and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris.

There’s no such thing as VW City. Volkswagenwerk’s home is Wolfsburg. So this city should be called Wolfsberg, Perak or something? Bandar Serigala?

This is absolutely hilarious….was he under the influence of something when he said this? or was he mesmerised by all the VWs parked in front of him?

What tourism value does the VW brand offer?…kekekekke….

or did he mean to use the all the VW classic bugs in perak as taxis or beca’s on four wheels….nuts!

As much as we all like VW to starting building cars here so that we can have cheap VW cars (in which ever form), it is absolutely ridiculous to name a town after a car. I think when the German govt named a town VW, it was laughed by all the car journalist in Europe. I guess the Perak govt must think its funny as well.

As for us, we can see the hunour side of it but that’s about it.

Indeed Perak MB really likes VW cars. Can some one do review with him and see which type of VW he is driving. Or did he put in a “w” symbol to replace his Perdana wording.
What happened next was he might form a BMW city, Mercedes city….and all sort of automotive city and ppl would only allow to go in that city by driving the same brand of car, same brand of clothes…..wow, my imagination too crazy d.
Ok, came back to the topic. What happened to the historical name? Are those long gone too? I think Perak MB failed his sejarah in school.

hmmm….during any ms universe contest, contestant would reply a generic paraphase without the need to use any part of the brain…’world piece’…malaysians would reply…’why the waste of the tax payers money’…or this only applicable to BN projects or both side of the coin?…

wow, the stupidity of our MPs constantly surprises me.

naming a city after a car brand?

sounds like you’re really desperate huh?

too bad. Proton dumped VW, so VW got a new girlfriend in Thailand, now Proton wants to woo VW back..but it’s too late.

Proton/Perak Mp: come on la babe, come back to me please?

Volkwagen: No way, i will never forgive you for dumping me. you should be glad i had the foresight to talk to you in the 1st place!

Proton/Perak Mp: sorry la, you know i slow one mah…..

Volkswagen: Whatever, it’s over between us. get over it! pfft!

HAHAHAHAHAHAH! somebody draw this into a comic strip and submit to straits times please. lol.

The MB said this when launching an event organised by the VW. He just mooted the idea spontanously. Maybe ABT can take part also to serve the VW entheutiaster. it is normal for every leader to say idea like this. Yesterday the sports minister at equin meeting said he will disbursed RM2m for the horses sports. it is normal right? Can we just digest his idea? An automotive based tourism spot first of its kind in Malaysia. I bet he has his own 60′ Beetle collection actually. :-)

For me, let Perak PR gov show what they can do. People tend to give negative comment before they put a try. If they succesful, then we can benefit from it.

Ignorance is the flavor of the day I guess. First of all, Perak is governed by Pakatan Rakyat. BN does not have to do anything with this.

Secondly, the MB of Perak owns only one car, and that’s a Kia Carnival (unlike some of our other MBs with their Mercs and Beemers and Porsches etc… but that’s another topic).

Third, with Thailand’s economic situation worsening, it’s not a really bad idea for Malaysia to produce parts for VW, seeing how the VW brand is growing in this region. If VW themselves are investing in this project, meaning that he’s not using the PERAK taxpayer’s money, then why not? Having seen how VW is keen to tap into our market.

He also said that the city will offer “variety of services and products linked to the German automaker”, not an exact replica of a German city. I know you guys are hoping for Oktoberfest or something… but given that he’s from PAS, good luck :)

And have you seen the number of GTIs being driven around lately? Not to mention Audis. And Remember how people used to laugh when Naza decided to bring in KIA?

    Paul,

First, I have to agree that it doesn’t make sense by saying “having a Volkswagen City, it will be a tourist city”. How the hell on earth a Volkswagen City will bring/attract more tourist to Perak. Gosh. What economy theory that explain this?

I’m not an automobile industry expert. Can you shed some lights on the pros and cons by having Volkswagen City into Perak.

one thing for sure, politicians in Malaysia are known to make claims and speeches that it would shock the earth with unrecordable magnitude. All talk, but (mostly) no action. Politicians are known to be a major contributor of “hot air” in their speeches.

After all the ground breaking ceremonies, launches etc, when all the hype gone, these project disappeared into thin air.

Then, politicians sit around again and ask: ” What topic shall we stir up this time ar?”

Given this ‘project’ is still under planning, I would say its should be called a VW centre rather than city. I presume it’s a matter of definition. It’s interesting though.

    MyviKiller,
You failed to read again.. no one is talking about PKR, they’re talking about PR (Pakatan Rakyat), a coalition of PAS,DAP and PKR.

Eh, just curious, are you in the country, or currently located overseas and chose not to get updated with the recent happenings here ?
