New shots of Toyota Avensis sedan and touring

Toyota UK has released more photos of both sedan and touring versions of the upcoming third generation Toyota Avensis, set to be unveiled to the public at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. The new Avensis certainly looks very sharp and muscular, a nice change compared to the rather dated look of the outgoing second generation model.

The new Toyota Avensis was styled at Toyota’s ED2 design studio in the south of France and will be built in the UK at Toyota’s Derbyshire plant. It will feature equipment such as Steering-assist Vehicle Stability Control (VSC+), Adaptive Front Light System (AFS) and Pre-Crash Safety System (PCS).

The interior controls and meter panel illumination follows the goldish theme of modern Toyotas such as the Auris. More detailed specs to be revealed at the motorshow.

Finally Toyota has decided to inject style into their design. Reliability alone
is not enough to sell cars. Ppl also want style also. Being a workhorse is not enough now days. It is a win win for the consumers.

Though of the day….. Automotive market is getting very competitive thus big giants like Toyota cannot relax on their laurels…………Giants can crumble…

Lucky they have “Kaisen” culture….. Continious improvement.

Like someone mentioned, the Avensis is to challenge the likes of the Euro Accord, Mazda 6 and Mondeo, which are all slightly smaller than our Accord and Camry, the reason being, for some awkward reasons Europeans don’t like huge mid range sedans, if it’s to be the size of Camry, they opt for E-Class, A6, 5 Series.

The old Avensis sits between the Altis and the Camry size wise, and its likely that the new model will reprise its role. The old Avencis is a nice car, but bland, and I can see Toyota is begining to see that it has to make its cars more attractive to younger buyers.

And no, it doen’t look like the Saga, accept perhaps if you were refering to the 4 round rubber doughnuts

This sparks a question why Toyota Msia don’t consider bringing in this model ? Every year same thing VIOS, Altis, Camry.

Yes im refering to the curve on the medial aspect of the headlight when compared to new saga( just a little)
The headlamp look a little bulbous as like current camry. I believe toyota should design something more aggressive like what honda did to their latest Accord.

unfortunately for toyota, they’re not exactly the best selling car in europe.. far from that in fact.

and strangely enough, euro-designed jap cars are not sold here coz market studies have shown that people dont really want them. which is also why we dont get euro-civic, or euro-accord.

Whether this car will sell depends on the reputation it has built in the U.K so far. As far as I know this car is well regarded and I think it will pull in the sales figure. Its natural selling point is reliability and the design is a extra bonus. People dont buy toyota for their styling….so consider this a bonus.
Can you say the same thing about its competitors.????. Think about it.
J.D Power survey conducted by What car in U.K last year. The old Avensis scored 3rd in it class and 8 overall. Looks like the old model fared very well with the British public. So the latest model should be able to carry on.

Kaisen……continious improvement…is the way of the future.

    ============================================
JD Power Survey 2007 – Family cars
    11 May 2007

    Family car league table

    3rd Toyota Avensis
    Rating 83.9%
    Overall ranking 8th=
Excellent service from dealers and low running costs were what secured the Avensis third place in its class. On top of that, owners had no complaints about the way the car drove, and said it was practical and comfortable, as well as having a fine stereo.

The transmission proved especially reliable and the build quality was good, too, with the interior causing very few problems. If there was a surprise, it was that the Avensis rated as no better than average for mechanical problems, with the suspension being the weak point.

    8th Volkswagen Passat
    Rating 79.9%
    Overall ranking 47th=
The Passat is often portrayed as something special, but its results here are firmly average. On the plus side, it means that its owners are basically happy. In fact, they liked
the good fuel consumption and were impressed with its mechanical reliability, reporting a below-average number of problems from the suspension.

On the other hand, there were some major misgivings, not least of which was that the Passat produced more complaints than any other car in the class about its exterior fittings. Owners also weren’t overly taken with the car’s styling, inside and out, or how it drove.

    11th Ford Mondeo
    Rating 79.0%
    Overall ranking 58th=
Broadly speaking, the only complaints about the Mondeo were how it looked – just the Vectra and Primera scored lower in this respect – and, perhaps more surprisingly, its ride and handling.

Otherwise, owners reported themselves happy with the car, rating it as no worse than average in six of the eight categories.

Inside, good scores for the car’s practicality and ventilation were offset by below-par ratings for the seats and dash layout, while the build and reliability were good in every respect except one: a high number of engine problems.

    13th Citroen C5
    Rating 77.7%
    Overall ranking 82nd=
Owners weren’t happy with the way their C5s looked, or how much they cost to run, but the car’s real problem was a shortage of quality. The C5 had the most complaints about its dashboard controls, and there was an above-average number of complaints about the stereo, ventilation system and exterior fittings.

On the other hand, mechanically it was no worse than average, and owners enjoyed the ride and handling, as well as the spacious interior. They had no major complaints about the dealers, either.

Well…as I see it, there’s nothing wrong with the car’s back looks. It’s rather nice I must say but hmmmm….I’m not that fond with the front design. A bit awkward to me. As for the interior, I think Toyota can come out better layout than this. If this car actually the same segment as the Mazda 6…I’ll choose Mazda 6 looks over this anyday.

toyota should just rebadge its mark x as camry and make available here as showroom models instead of AP’s. This will teach those outthere who think that they make boring designs nad the accord as the graetest car out there.

PLEASE dont campare, the UK market to our malaysian market, the likings are totally diferent and also the car policies and so are the offerings .Yes , maybe to a certain extend thier design are bland, but hey they sell like hot cakes. Its a proven fact that they are the most reliable cars in the industry and 2 months ago, toyota was awarded the most satisfactory car in overall standings by a leading brand assesment company worldwide , honda is no 2. seriously ,there is no point comparing 2 diff brands which are not in the same pool. both company do wat they are best at , satisfying thier audiences, not thier competitors ,nor critics who thinks that driving a reliable car is a selfish man.

Maybe we need to redefine the meaning of sellfish…..?
    Thinking wise….
