Malaysian Nissan Navara to come with 174 PS engine, leather seats and HID headlamps

Nissan Navara

UPDATE: Nissan Navara with 174 PS launched in Malaysia! – follow the link for full information on prices, specifications and photos!

The most powerful pick-up truck in Malaysia is coming soon – the Nissan Navara! Edaran Tan Chong Motor has launched a teaser microsite for the upcoming Nissan Navara, and they call it one big mother trucker!

Specs on the microsite confirms that we will not be getting any detuned or lame version of the Navara’s 2.5 litre engine, we will be getting the powerful common rail intercooled direct injected version with a Variable Nozzle Turbo (VGT) producing a powerful 174 PS at 4,000rpm and 403Nm of torque at 2,000rpm.

Unlike the Frontier which came with a 5-speed manual only, the new Nissan Navara will come with a 5-speed automatic transmission with an easy rotary switch for shifting between 2WD and 4WD modes. 2H and 4H modes can be shifted on the fly at speeds of under 100km/h. You will likely have to stop to switch into the low-ratio 4L mode, but the rotary switch makes it easier than a shift lever.

This is probably also the first pick-up truck in Malaysia equipped with Xenon HID headlamps, which ETCM carefully states on the site is fully JPJ-compliant. The vehicle also has dual SRS airbags for the front passenger and driver. A version with leather seats will also be available, while in-car audio is served by a 2-DIN audio system with 4 speakers and 2 tweeters.

The specs of the Navara indicates a rather premium positioning – leather seats, the powerful engine and the xenon headlamps are proof of that. The microsite does not indicate a price and I’m not sure whether a cheaper version with less specs but retaining the powerful engine (or a manual version) will be available either, so we will just have to wait and see whether an indicated launch date appears anywhere on the internet.

I don’t trust that HID “fully JPJ-compliant”. The bloody X-Trail 2.5 Xenon is shooting like mad at my eyes.

I doubt it can fight Hilux as most Malaysian only love their Toyotas… Quite a bad thing… Hope that it can sell as well as the D-max and Triton…

This is sort of a luxury pickup- big, soft, comfortable. If you want a workhorse the Frontier would be better i think

I’m sick of being bullied by all these pick up truck drivers…. the worst is when they taigate you along the Fed Highway, and when you’re required to brake suddenly because of some slow traffic up ahead, they’ll hit your car coz these UTEs have very poor braking performance.

At mudah.com, it already open for booking! at 103kilo. a most powerful and most expensive. will enter forest or use to carry palm oil fruit at 100kilo price?
prefer current frontier, suitable for off road. but u if u want luxury, choose this la.. improvement from TCM, at least the engine is most powerful here even thought we get it very very late.

I’ve driven this monster in australia back in 2006 and it’s a BEAST. Easily drives a lot better than the triton (my friend owns one) although not as pretty. This is the truck to buy if you ever want one, except for one little caveat, it’s thirsty… really thirsty. Fuel consumption is definitely not on the menu, and I don’t care what the brochure claims.

Maybe its true in Peninsular but Malaysian Borneo especially Sabahan needs this kind of car, we don’t have highways like you all have there, how come? You want people here to “jalan kaki ka?”

anythings come with high power and high torque at a very low rpm i scare not that durable on long term , at starting can produce so high power need the engine pump up very high heat and will get a consumption on the fuel also , frontier has alot problem on the head and the gear box , but this is another good choice for nissan fans for a auto model pickup equip with common rail engine .
