An Italian newspaper reported on Saturday that PSA Peugeot Citroen and Fiat are considering a potential merger, which would make the new PSA Peugeot Citroen Fiat entity the world’s number 4 carmaker. If true, it is some pretty quick progress, coming right after Fiat’s CEO mentioned the Italian company needed to find a partner to survive the crisis brewing in the automotive industry, but such haste is needed in these times.
PSA has mentioned before in the past that it preferably did not want to add new alliances, but instead wanted to deepen existing relationships. PSA and Fiat already have current co-operations in areas like commercial vans. The Fiat Fiorino, the Peugeot Bipper and the Citroen Nemo are all derived from the same project.
The two companies also have joint ventures with other companies on their own. PSA Peugoet Citroen’s recently launched SUVs are a development of the Mitsubishi Outlander while the Fiat Sedici is a Suzuki SX4.

French woman is sexy, Italian is fierce. This partnership will lead to Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu.
I wouldn’t have to guess how bad the electrics on one of these will be.
The french never quite got electrics rights, despite thier fondness in gadgets and such, the italians? oh boy…..
double whammy! if one of their partners were japanese or german , it would make sense. look how much the renault and nissan collaboration has benefited the world
I think is a great move, Fiat is a very big company.. If i not mistaken alfa romeo, ferrari is also related to Fiat.. Is better to merge and become a even more bigger group to share technology and platform. This will save cost and built better QC cars, anyway for EUROPEANS Turbo Diesel engine is the best and they already have a few which are very good in this world. I supported them to merge, but thinking of our own Malaysia manufacturer.. I wonder if the recession really didn’t hit us?!? Such a small country like us, but no recession?

how did lucy liu came out of the product. did peugeot have an affair with chery?
still, i think its quite a good movement. fiat’s quality has seriously improved lately, plus brilliant designs. these three carmakers are also ripe for a return to the states.
Mergers is always risky business.
The Renault-Nissan one worked out quite well, but on the other hand Daimler-Chrysler one, well, that one didn’t go so well…………
Cheaper parts yes, but please different cars. Not Like nissan-renault with their cars. Same cars, just different badges
They have to..
since recession will going more bad next year.
