Ford Ranger Thunder production truck based on Ford Ranger Max concept

Ford Ranger Thunder

This image of what appears to be a new Ford Ranger Thunder has been snapped in Thailand. Those that remember the Ford Ranger Max concept from late last year will immediately recognise it to be a production version of that concept. It’s not clear at the moment whether this is a some form of special edition of the Ford Ranger with different headlamps, grille, bumper and other aesthetic bits, or a full-fledged facelift. The word “Thunder” was used on a special edition current generation Ranger before in the UK, and perhaps some other places. Malaysia could get this pretty soon as our Ranger now comes from Thailand as a fully imported unit, instead of being locally assembled here as Ford has pulled out its official presence from this country. As usual, the production translation of the concept has been toned down considerably, but modification enthusiasts can use the concept truck as a reference in their own pimpage plans. Look after the jump for a previously featured gallery of the orange Ranger Max concept truck.

Great stuff. This is the fastest concept car to reality built ever seen so far.

The look is good, although I still think it looks very similar to Hilux. Waiting for more details on this truck and its engine before further comment.

    Great stuff to ford.

Doesn’t look as rugged as the pre-facelift one. But who knows it may look better when seen in metal.

Or maybe someone will just say: “This is not a Ford Ranger, it’s a Fairy Ranger!”

Built Ford Tough. That’s what Ford says. I say a 4WD pickup truck should be built BIG, MUSCULAR, IMPOSING and most important of all, POWERFUL!!! Think about this. A 2.5L inline 4, twin turbo-diesel churning out 210bhp@4200rpm with a torque output of 500Nm@1600rpm powertrain. Now that’s impressive. Well guys, at least that’s what I’m hoping for. I LOVE FORD!

I don’t think the asian Ranger is built ford tough….lol.

Once you’ve driven or been in the F150 and F250 the Asian ranger admitedly looks puny. I used them to tow our race cars to the track.

The best pickup I’ve been in…? The Dogde Ram SRT-10. I had a 13.8second taxi ride down the dragstrip…..on the other lane, a F150 Lightning

the ford ranger has been one of the best selling pickups in malaysia, ever. in fact, i dare say it was ford who practically built that segment in the malaysian market. not too bad for a junk product.

    How so? Mitlanevo?

Its a matter of perspective. I’m giving you the other half of it.

You have people here bickering about non-consequential differences between small trucks. You sound the expert here, but have you sampled the world outside?

    Chill man…

Fords are indeed built TOUGH! 4G63T DSM, you’re comparing a tiger with a cat.Of course our Rangers look puny compared to American trucks. That’s why I said we must build them BIG, MUSCULAR, IMPOSING n POWERFUL. Did you miss that? Compare the engines’ capacity or did you miss that again? TOUGH doesn’t just mean fast. TOUGH have lots of definations. My 9-year-old Ranger have went through thick n thin, sink n swim (literally, but I won’t go into details) with me since day one when I bought it new. Fast gear changes, charging in n out of corners, uphills, downhills, tarmac, jungle tracks, jumps, bumps, humps, heavy loads, you name it, my Ranger have been to hell n back. Mind you, my Ranger is STOCK STANDARD. I have already done nearly 250K kms n you know what? My absorbers are all the same ones since I bought them 9 years ago!!! Still no leakages. Now how’s that for TOUGH my dear 4G63T DSM???!

Navara is great, with all the Nm figures…..

Hilux is popular, but just among Toy-otak fans…. engine PS and Nm? laughable…..

D-Max is looking great on the exterior, not so sure about the performance though…..

Triton? a big NO from me…. I’m a Mitsu fan, but Triton is not a proper looking pickup truck, trying to be a car and a truck at the same time, but failed on both efforts…. maybe that’s why some countries wanted to deport it (refer Top Gear mag for that)

Telcoline is the desperate-type truck, and Frontier + Courier is history…..

well, my point is that, Jap trucks are trying their very best, but come on, pickups trucks are not their kind of stuff…..

leave it to Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge etc etc (even though some of them are unavailable here)

most of us here don’t have chance to ride on F-whatever or SRT-whatever, so comparing those powerful + mighty + BEAUUUUUTIFUL machines to our local “mini pickups” is unfair….
