W212 Mercedes-Benz E-Class: new rear-end styled by Theophilus Chin

Original W212
Theophilus Chin’s take on the W212’s rear end

The new W212 E-Class looks pretty good – it has a strong and athletic poise especially when equipped with the AMG bumper, but for alot of people these good vibes end when they have a look at the rear, which kind of gives me the feeling their designers ran out of ideas and swiped the rear lights of the B-Class and just slapped it in. I personally think something like a cross between the new W204 C-Class and the now old W211’s rear end would look better. Theophilus Chin got to work straight away and whipped something up, and here is the result. What do you think?

nice work.. i looks so much better than the supposed to be next e class. the new e looks dull and i have a feeling that bmw new 5 series will kill this for sure. i dont understand why would the designers what it to look like the W124 series.

yup… the photochop design is much better looking than the original… in fact it got more merc feeling compared to the existed new e class… more sporty with the gene of the CL63 AMG in it…

See, local people also can be better than the Mat Salleh designer of Merc. Merc please do something to your new E class. It is UGLY.

I still think that the original w212 is a better design. Theophilus 1 is rather bland. Too similar to that of c-class. Wide tail light makes the car look wider and gives more stance. E-class may look dull to some but it’s is truly an executive car. Should not call dull, it’s more to sedate but muscular. Back to old school squarish theme…. yay

If Theophilus’s design was the original design, people will still call it dull and bland…

the bottom one definitely look better, more suited to a merc.

In my opinion, factory-designed W212 rear is dumpy, even saggy to look at but at least it is different from the current corps of design evident in the C-Class and Theophilus’s rendering of the W212.

i think both also have their own pros and cons !!!! The originl one looks cheap….. the second picture seems un-luxurious…. So, should come up with more ideas…. Both also not satisfying for the rear part… front part is okay …

You should tell MB to change their tail light design. Theo, your design looks far better.

What a great job from Theophilus Chin. The new rear tail light for E-Class looks like the one behind Toyota Camry. 2 totally different class of cars. As a Mercedes Benz supporter, i really hope their ’state-of-the-art’ design team would realize what have they done to their E-Class and make some move. I they don’t, BMW 5 series will again dominate for many years to come.

Mercedes should just stay with the original signature rear lights (kind of bulbous) . It looks more “merc-less” with that official blocky rear lights.

Looks better than the Cefiro/Teana look of the original design..
I think the original was spoilt by the tapered lamp design.

    Not so nice to me.
Just like the facelifted C-Class rear light.
I still wait to see the real car then only judge it is nice or not.

give it some lamborghini rear lamps, that’d be nice

think about it this way. Mercedes purposely design it uglier so that after 2 years, they can introduce a better looking facelift model. Imagine if cars in the 80s are designed like an aston martin db9. I wonder how will they look like now if that’s the case

i think the original 1 looks better..

the 2nd 1 looks like C-Class and the new Honday City Rear..

Merc-Benz have their own style of luxury !!

I don’t like BMW becos their design looks younger and not as class as the BENZ..

just my own opinion .. thanks.. :)
