GM cancels right hand drive Chevrolet Camaro

Chevrolet Camaro

If you’ve got loads of cash and really want to drive a Chevrolet Camaro in Malaysia with the help of your friendly neighbourhood parallel importer, you’ll have to sit on the left side of the car, as GM has just announced that it will be scrapping plans to reengineer the car for right hand drive to help preserve cash. However it seems that Chevrolet will still be selling the Camaro in the UK as a LHD car in a RHD country, but only in limited units of less than 100 in order not to trigger type approval regulations.

Its a pity we can't all agree on driving on the same side of the road.

I would have loved to have brought my car back. But given the difficulties with toll and parking booths, it might not have been worth it.

That why they are doing, I think this is not a great car. Knowing GM/Chevvy.

    Paul,

I know that in Australia, there is a company that performed LHD to RHD conversion. I'm not sure how much but seen a lots of those Vette.. being transformed into RHD vehicle and still road worthy n legal…

Perhaps, those with deep enough pocket & admire of the vehicle can purchase it and get the Australian party to convert it for them.

Sure will be garang seeing this vehicle in Malaysian road. Plus will definetly attract a lots of ladies too… a.k.a Megan Fox wannabe…

    cheers…

Someone should do a study on why there's a difference in driving positions throughout the world. What's the point of driving on the left or on the right?

Bad news, but then it is better gone than available. Imagine how many km you get per litre.

If want to drive LHD car in RHD country, you need an additional parking ticket machine on the left, toll for LHD lane, additional mirror to safe overtake. Example we can take is Russia is a LHD country but in Vladivostok,100% cars are RHD car imported from Japan. Japan was a LHD country but changed to RHD on 30 July 1978. Any LHD car in Japan is either an old model a.k.a. 729 car or Japanese living abroad returning to Japan or privately imported the car from Canada or US which is cheaper than buying imported car in Japan which subjected national protection tax. Samoa is converted to RHD on 7 September 2009.
