Javanese,

It's Variable Geometry Turbine, VGT, as in Ford Ranger, or Volvo D5. I think must be some disadvantages, as Volvo already apply this tech almost a decade, and yet not many manufacturers follow suit. Maybe it's cheaper to built than multi turbo/turbine, but not that effective.
Ford or Volvo ? They are using discharged Audi Technology from the 1980s (Audi Quattro). The 5 cylinder Volvo engine was purchased from Audi when Audi didn't had any use for it any more. When Ford bought Volvo, they found that the engine is so advanced, that they use it now in Ford cars too...

Actually, ALL VW/Audi TDI are using "Variable Geometry Turbine" since about 1990...

could be either 2 cylinders to 1 turbo each, or a sequential setup like the concept merc which you can read here:

how does 3 turbos work?

the air that passes through the large turbo goes into the 2 smaller turbos and spools it up?

Since the fuel price fall down the floor, all these crazy SUVs starts to roll off. Remember Obama said this is the time we change, not to get back to oil addiction again. And now this? Tri-Turbo? all these power figures not some numbers we never seen before. Whats the aim of this car?? Computer have dual core and quad-core for faster speed. does this make the world's most efficient car? or simply just a piece of art

Nah... too expensive, too complicated and utterly pointless. twin turbo would do just fine if not better. Why do you need small turbo in a diesel when you have VTG? If it's a tri-turbo petrol engine I get, but not diesel.

Turbodiesels for the win!
