I appreciate you sharing your experience. However, to some like me the changes that are to be made by the new management may be too late. They have a lot of ground to cover, and since they've been 'protected' for so long, i'll be like learning to walk again. QC is the major concern here. Look at Hyundai and Kia. They may have started in similar ways, but in comparison as you can see in this blog, they are far more advanced and miles ahead in innovation.

The power window issue is nagging at most. But with all the 'new' tech in Exora (First for Proton), who knows what they have missed out! Malfunctioning sensor for air bag? I wonder why the past and current Proton cars aren't using this at the first place. Cheaper parts maybe?

I hope there isn't a case of "Aiya.. one sensor missing la, biasa la..." :O
I simply don't want me and my family to take the risk of being guinea pigs here...

Anyway, these are just my thoughts. It's up to you and everyone what they really want in a vehicle.

Hello ferruccio,

Actually i don't have to let myself be bitten twice, I just view the proton owners forums and I know the same problems still exist after 10 yrs. Power window problems on the Persona, anyone?

Don't get me wrong, at the end of the day, it's still Proton management who decides to order those parts. Suppliers just supply their demand. But is citizens who end up suffering with many hours in SC with foreman saying "Aiya.. proton memang macam itu la... " for problems reported.

Cheers
This is very true many years ago, but less so today. The Persona is essentially the Gen2, model created under the previous management and still going through it's life cycle.

I have personally owned or driven for extended periods the following Protons - '89 Saga 1.5i, Satria GTi, 2003 Saga LMSS, 2001 Perdana V6, 2007 Perdana V6, Satria Neo, Savvy.

The Power window problem is infamous. However I never had that problem in my Satria GTi after I sprayed silicone on the rubber lining. It is indeed a design flaw, produced by the vendor, of which Proton is also accountable for. Vendor agreements are binding, so without knowing the details of the commitments to the agreement, I can't say why it wasn't completely redesigned quickly.

However you should have watched the Exora launch on TV1. Dato' Syed addressed the power window issue HEAD-ON. He was not evasive about it at all and highlighted to everyone specificially on the power window issue which will NEVER occur in the Exora.

I have also never had any issues with power window in my 2 year old Neo. None whatsoever. The Neo was already a big improvement in design for Proton. it does have flaws such as head room but compared to previous older Protons the Neo is in a completely different league. Much much much better product, consistent shut lines, you can see the assembly, which is done in the proton factory is high quality. There are weaknesses, which tend to be parts supplied by the vendor, but for me at least nothing major and nothing which could not be rectified during service.

The SAGA is the first product under the new management. I was surprised, very roomy for its class, good interior and feel. Contemporary styling. Right product, right time, right price - as Proton calls it. Spot on. Now the EXORA. embodies the same values and pushing further with better value(more amenities, more technology)

To me Proton these days do not have a problem design good products. My concern now is their after sales. This I think is the current weak point, especially in the last year but which I know Proton is addressing right now.

Even after saying that, your comments "Aiya proton memang macam itu la.." ie. the 'Tidak Apa' attitude no longer holds true. At least in the centres that I send my cars to. That attitude was very true when I sent my cars many years ago. I was surprised by the impovement in their customer service. the service advisor was actually on MY SIDE when the technical side missed an item for service. They in fact called me to apologize for an oversight by the technician, and that they will rectify it immediately. i was not even aware of the mistake as I hadn't picked up my car yet, and it was a really minor issue but they took it seriously because it was a request from me.

Actually it was funny.. i asked for mach 5 to be filled in my car as I run in my new car that way. By mistake they put in the more expensive standard syntium 800 oil. They informed me of the mistake and charged me mach 5 price. It's actually a 'beneficial mistake' for me. :)

I am very familiar with cars and am a mechanic myself so I know when shops BS me. I have to admit my SC advisor is honest and sending my car for servicing has been a pleasant experience. They do LISTEN to customers complaints and they are not happy, like you, if the complaint is still there.

I noticed the number of staff in their SC (COE) seems a lot less these days, compared to a year ago, which may affect the customer's experience. Hope they improve this area soon. There is definitely room for improvement especially when compared to other manufacturer SCs but the cutsomer service team seems a lot better these days.

They even have a fleet of mobile team, the orange 'i.care' cars that go around the city at petronas stations. Any proton owner can have their car inspected, get a free assesment and do simple servicing on the spot.

As a Malaysian, being patriotic to support Proton or not is not the point. Kita pun orang yang guna otak. What's the reason BMW and other cars T/H/N etc are so expensive? Why would people take up 7yrs. 9yrs loan for non-national cars? I'm no proton basher, i own one.. that's why i can say i really regret getting it. Going for Grade C/D parts to lower costs which has 50% chance or failure is not value for money. Export models are far better but lower price, why? Overseas higher standard and Msia ppl no standard??

Orang Jepun buat kereta, kita pun buat kereta. Local japanese get best quality, kita? Why local taxi has export grade cars but we pay our hard earned money for low grade cars?

Once bitten twice never....
Your view sounds typical of the Proton of 10 years ago. What Proton model do you own? Why not have a look at the current new models. They're nothing like the old Protons.

I urge you risk letting yourself be bitten twice. It will be a much nicer kind of bite :) Just drop by the nearest Proton showroom to see what I mean.
Absolutely worthless comment with nothing but conjecture and zero facts. Drop by the Proton centre of excellence or the Tg Malim, have at least a hint of what goes on in there and then give yourself a pat on the back for embracing the year 2009

do you know how the figure pops out?? more people buy, the cheaper each part be. What talking you ? Look at the old Saga ! How much was it sold for the last time before the new Saga launched ? RM34K++ ? More than 1 million units sold ! Did the price come down ? No, it did not ! Why price never go down after 20 years for one old model ? Wira also thing, which Wira rear bumper never dropped or out of alignment after two years of usage ? It was only a moving cost to produce the old Saga then, why price from RM18K shot to RM34K++ some more down grade to 1.3 selling at RM34K++ ! Worst still look at the old Saga design from original to become worst in terms of quality used, all hard plastic. Simply do a facelift that spoilt the outlook of the car ! And, best was glove compartment gone ! All this base on your above 'explanation'. Care to give excuses some more you ?
Protons are for middle-income peoples (less than 10k per month). For those getting higher than 10k per month, just forget about proton. Go for honda and toyota.

FYI, this is KOREAN Design. Nothing to proud of,
The WAJA replacement design also will do by Japan.
no...i guess ur wrong please don't say that. i've worked in Proton R&D till last March, and I took part in designing Exora's interior. FYI, the designs, the shape, EVERYTHING that U see is designed by Proton Styling. the Korean Consultants only designed the engineering. Designing the engineering means designing each part's thickness, safety and so on.

come on la... be proud. you think malaysians r so stupid ka? have some faith man..
I'm glad you've explained that, ppl like him got t bone stuck in his throat..

The truth is, all cars have problems, even T/H/N cars. I've told the story of my Honda City so many times I've lost count! Proton is evolving, and the Exora I think is the genesis of a new Proton. Go check it out before forming your opinions...

I thinking that most malaysian don't think about how the thing be done. They just talk with no point. Adakah design tu pakai hentam lukis aje tanpa menghiraukan aspek ergonomik & fungsi. Berapakah kos yang perlu R&D keluarkan bila sesuatu design tu tak melepasi tahap ujian yang diperlukan ?.
Yes Dato' Syed was very good. It was very engaging. Very good. it delivered the msg about what the Exora was all bout, why they build it. What the objectives were. The importance and significance of this model to Proton's development.

I think many STILL fail to understand the difference between Proton and the other 'national cars'. Proton is the only one that requires vast amounts of money for R&D.

In the last few years, under Dato Syed Zainal, it is clear that Proton realigned its direction. They started listening to customers and building cars people wanted, not cars that the management 'thinks' should be 'right' for the market.

Though they're not there yet with the big boys. Whats clear is they are at least pointed the right way. And they ARE progressing, not in large leaps but in steps. All they have to do is to keep at it. Keep improving. It takes time, sure, but at least they've got the destination right.

The new SAGA is the first all new product under Dato Syed's management and it is a hit. Now the EXORA is also a hit. Tun Mahathir must be proud that Proton is listening to people.

The priority now is profitability with good bread and butter models. Exciting 'Specials' like the Neo or some sporty product is good but should not be the priority at this point time. Such brand enhancing models(satria GTi etc) can come later. Survivability in the global marketplace is the highest priority right now.

Tapi kelemahan paling ketara ialah finishing. Langsung tidak kemas dan nampak seperti bahan yang digunakan adalah bahan murahan. Plastik murahan.
