Guys, I've test driven this KIA Cerato Forte in Singapore. Totally amazed of what they did to the drive train and insulations! Easily dampens irregular road condition like other Japanese makes! Engine is responsive, for both 1.6 & 2.0 capacities. Another major improvement are the interior built. Say good bye to to Spectra & Rondo class plastics. Say hi to Civic-alike built quality! OMG... /beg Naza to bring them in, 2.0 CBU and rpice them around the Hyundai Elantra a.k.a Avante! Ooops, I'm a guy who still driving a 6 years old Kia Spectra, still holding up and no complains at all, I guess regular maintenance works wonders to all makes! KIA Cerato Forte will be my next car, finally my wait will be over once it's in Malaysia!

the new KIA/Hyundai engine is what we call as GEMA engine.. It is a shared by GM & Mitsubishi also.. So the new Kia Rondo 2.0 also using it the same engine as the Mitsubishi 2.0 Mivec engine. The different is only the tuning or different wiring system... So never tot Korean engine are bullshit, now they are on par with Japanese & even US!
gema stands for "global engine manufacturing alliance". It consists of Hyundai, Chrysler and Mitsubishi. KIA itself as a company does not do any engine work, but uses engines from the GEMA group as Hyundai owns KIA.

the base engine was supplied by hyundai which is the theta. but the technology that powers these engines are contributed from this alliance so its not 100% korean. its not as simple as a wiring harness change or tuning. The idea of course, is a cost cutting measure and everyone pools their resources.
BykMskWkshop - I beg to differ. "Hyundai-Kia Motors R&D Center received US$57 million in royalties from Mitsubishi and Chrysler for the Theta engine." [SOURCE - Hyundai-Kia R&D Brochure 2009]. Doesn't that mean the technology is from Hyundai-Kia R&D and not Mitsubishi & Chrysler? Otherwise why pay royalties?

Korean carmakers succeed because of the support of the Korean people, even when they were making crap cars, whereas Proton have little support of the Malaysian people, how to move forward?
We, the poor rakyat, have been supporting Proton for it's whole life until now (who do u think contribute to the majority of Proton sale??). Remember the early 90s, every car park in Malaysia is a Proton Showroom (this, is a statement I read in Times magazine many years back).
Proton failed even with Malaysian support (remember the time when Proton dominate 80% of the passenger car sale???)
I think you have forget the history of Proton. Proton should have taken the big step then, not now when KIA & Hyundai already overtaken Proton many years ago.
If u really think the Korean love their brand like we should "love" Proton, watch some Korean dramas & you will see, the main actor/actress most of the time, drive Merc, BMW, Austin etc. ONLY on rare occasion did you see them drive a KIA.
But Kia didn't cry like Proton, begging for our rakyat love & charity.
Wake up man, this business world, not taman permainan kanak-kanak!!!!!!
how do u know they buying them?

its a drama, car company may be paying for indirect advertisement? or, their money is much enough to overcome the burden of paying tax for the car? just like in malaysia... u adore korean, japanese too much...

Err.. bukan ke keta ni namanya Cerato Forte kat SG?

Lol.. cakap pasal KIA.. semalam aku berhenti kat traffic light tgh tunggu utk lampu hijau seterusnya, waktu tu tgh hari terik, tiba2 aku terdengar bunyi pelik.. mcm2 bunyinya.. "klak kluk, kok, kok".. bunyi screeching belting pun ada.. aku mengelabah, aku ingatkan keta aku yg buat hal.. lama kelamaan, bunyi pun makin kuat dan apabila kuamati betul2, bunyi tu dtg dari arah belakang.. seterusnya berhenti disebelah aku.. rupa2nya, bunyi tu dtg dari KIA Sorento! bunyi yg kuat itu boleh didengari walaupun tingkap Persona aku tutup sepenuhnya.. aku cuba bukak tingkap, jgn cakap mcm mana bunyinya.. apabila lampu hijau, kami pun jalan da.. aku bagi Sorento tu lepas dulu, aku tgk dari plat number dia, umur keta tu baru je 2thn.. bunyi absorber pun ada semasa lalu kat jalan yg tidak rata.. itu satu2 nya Sorento yg paling teruk belum pernah kutemui..

when i see this car and the c'eed, proton is really a disgrace, however there are many blind people who believe in the false sense of pride of proton. Anyways, this car is fantastic, seen it at Singapore, plus its cheaper than a Honda City, Vios, etc.....i wonder how much it would be in Malaysia. And i seriosuly hope Naza does not mess it up.
i think your argument that thousands of malaysians have somehow been blinded by proton, a disgraceful company as you claim, is pretty amazing.
sure it is. thank you, i know i write amazing things.

It is no surprise that this shares the same platform as Elantra. Look at the centre dash and compare with the Elantra.

Great stuff from KIA. Hopefully Naza brings this in.

Oh yeah that would be nice. Hmmm ... KOUP Concept translates quite well into the production model. Perhaps that concept high power engine might do the same sometime soon? NICE!

But, non product related junk aside, how about this. Since Kia has no motorsports background and doesn't have TRD or Mugen to back it up, how about getting HKS to do a tuned up Forte Koup? I'm sure they have relations with Namyang R&D as they've already done a tuned up Genesis Coupe for some US event .. perhaps SEMA? "HKS FORTE KOUP" please! It can be Asia's 'Shelby Mustang'!
Sounds good - and if they bolt on a low pressure turbo on the 2.4L and it'll easily produce more than 200BHP.
Or the original concept engine.. that'd be nice.

Interestingly in the old days, as far as I can remember, Kia Motors was offered to many parties including some Malaysian ones. Many in the industry were speculating that Tan Sri Yahaya Ahmad should have bought Kia instead of Lotus. But then, hindsight is always right, and speculation is a worthless thing but worth mentioning in this context.
