20% toll rebate for Touch ‘n Go starts now

Toll RebateThe government is currently having a 20% toll rebate scheme for those who register 80 toll transactions and above on a single Touch ‘n Go card. This scheme begins this month.

Kind of odd that the scheme is not based on amount of toll used per month but rather on frequency of use, but no matter, something is better than nothing I guess. The way the rules are currently, one who pays 50 sen for toll 80 times a month (RM40) enjoys a rebate while one who pays RM2.20 toll 60 times a month (RM132) will not.

From what I can gather, all you need to do is to continue using your Touch ‘n Go card as normal. Using it in a Smart TAG works as well. But just to be safe you might want to register your Touch ‘n Go card first at the Touch ‘n Go Frequent Travelers Programme website (here is a FAQ). UPDATE: From what I’ve been made understand, the registration is not required to be enrolled in the program. You only need to register if you want to keep track of how many transactions you’ve used. This will make it easier for you to see if you’ve hit 80 a month.

Claiming your rebate is not automatic. Each calendar month, you will have to bring your card to the Touch ‘n Go center at Faber Towers or KL Sentral, or selected highway sales centres. If you qualify for a rebate, the 20% rebate will be credited into your card on the spot. You can only start collecting your rebates beginning 5th October 2009.

Look after the jump to find a list of the selected centres.

  • I think its because for those who travel pass 80 times of toll a month, tolls are too frequent to them thus it became an obstruction.

Unlike those who travel pass tolls less than 80 times a month (higher total cost), highways are simply an express lane to reach from a to b.

This is set up to fail. They should just give rebates at point of sale. Forget 20%. Just give 5% for RM100 and 10% for RM200 and they will do roaring business. They don't lose totally as there is time value for money now than later and they will also get goodwill. I think they are just forced to do this unwillingly by the government. Might as well do nothing and earn less ridicule!

Most highways already recoup the cost to built it and it should be given back to govt much earlier once it repaid itself from toll collections. Open competitive tender for highway maintenance shouldn't be a bad idea in long run, instead of few people milking the cash cows just to show they can keep the toilets in rest areas shiny and justify current concession practice means the best deal for all road users.

If someone travel so frequently, do you think it got time to go to these office to rebate themself?!?

I think is better to give rebate when we reload out Touch ' N Go…

Like Ku Kok Peng suggest… Maybe 5% discount for RM100 reload, RM200 for 10% and RM300 for 20%. Like this even better and maybe Plus earn even more money as ppl are ready to pay more to get 20% discount…

    Salamz and Hello,

Forgot to mention it in my earlier posting, Selamat Berpuasa Ramadhan.

Anyways, this Touch N Go giving rebate 20% should have been implemented AUTOMATICALLY rather than having the consumers flocking and queuing up at the designated rebate reclamation center. Don't you think it will create jams over there instead? We're living in the world of Information Age, so what's the point having our Touch N Go registered with our info? Touch N Go should fully utilize the database gain from consumers, and plug it into their system, and provide automatic rebate via electronic reload (when consumers reload their cards).

On the other hand, some comments up there are right, rather than going all the hassle of this 20% rebate to 80 times-toll users, might as well give 10% discount to ALL toll fare. Hey, we consumers aren't really that stupid and greedy lah. Any kind of discount/rebate is godsend.

Try to make sense lah government, if wanna to implement any new rebate system, make sure it is done PROPERLY and it is FULLY FUNCTIONAL. Not just another "cincai" government quality jobs. Lu fikirlah sendiri!

Furthermore, the government has NOT honour its promise to the rakyat that fuel price for RON 95 is RM1.75/L and RON 97 is 2.00/L. Instead they increased it even more by 5 cents. Hey you government, never learn lah from the last election! Shame on you! Dalam bulan puasa pun nak carik duit cara macam haram! Tak takut ke dengan Tuhan? Duit memang banyak, tapi tak berkat!

I am a taxpayer living in perak. To me, this scheme is very unfair to us living in outside of klang valley. I pay the same tax but most of the benefits go to KL people. I travel to KL or Penang at least 2 a week to meet clients and deliver products. My touch N go bill every months is at least RM 400. But I only cross the tollgates about 16-20 times a month. I spend the same or more than KL people but i cannot achieve the number of passes at the toll.

This system is not beneficial to us living outside of Klang valley. The guy passing thru sprint hiway for rm 1 x 80 times will get 20% off.

Its amazing that there are some people in klang valley still complaining that it is not good enough. ungrateful bunch.. i can't even taste the 20%.

yeah, a flunk system in which even at the registration stage, it does not work..how da' hell is this going to boost the consumer's confidence? And I agree with the rest, its too much of a hassle to head over to the designated PLUS centres to get our rebate in which with today's technology, everything could simply be automated…

Next is the 80 times quota that you have to meet and not to mention, KEEP TRACK OF IT. Come on govt or the relevant party, I'm sure there are better options that you guys can think off…

Sigh..as consumers, its sad that we just have to eventually go with the flow regardless of the outcome…

Very unsincere from the gov. First you need number of times, not distance, then you need to go to a central location just to reclaim your worth?

    You must be mad.

People who use TnG want to save time. How does going to only 2 places help save time? Unless the savings are the same amount as the tax rebate like the jpj and you can get from post office is, then why bother at all.

And what's the point of registring your TnG? So that gov can keep tabs on where you are, send in SB to nick you if you are volatile to them?

Paul, how does the 20% work?

    1. Do they give 20% of the amount used (eg: if you use RM160) Do they give you RM32 credit?

    or

    2. 20% of your next top up value? (eg: Top up RM200 they give you extra RM40)

Additionally, it not really benefit the public, only benefit to small percentage of group like those in sales field and site support.

Why they like to spend their time/money do this kind of non-productivity and waste money implementation.

Last time is car rebate, now is toll rebate. They try to create more job in GLC so that can suck in more money from our tax payment…

Eh, brader, cubalah kasi sedar sikit management Minus and Plus ko tu kalau kononnya "kurangkan beban rakyat OneMalaysia". Alang-alang ko dah masuk website nih, khabarkan dia orang kelemahan sistem ini. Kalau nak maju 1Malaysia, perlu open minded dengar kritik. Bagi rebate tak ikhlas (not sincere in giving rebates). Patut bagi across the board for those who use TnG let say 20% more. And of course we should migrate to TnG. Its safer, faster and better. You can use NETS in Singapore even to pay for groceries and taxi fares. And statement can be printed for monitoring and budgeting purposes. Why would gomen want to monitor you by your TnG?

But again. bagi tak ikhlas. nak bagi, bagi terus lah.

Yes, the system is flawed and doesn't sound sincere. If the gov is sincere and works with TnG properly, we should all get 20% discount for tolls at the point of the transaction. Cash lane: RM1.00, TnG: RM0.80. Then every Rakyat will be encouraged to use TnG to pay tolls.

But let's look at the TnG system from the technical point of view. It is impossible for TnG to auto-reload your cards with the 20% rebate (normal TnG cards not linked to the credit card Zing system). The cards has to be physically "programmed" with the value… at the reload counter, at ATM… you need to physically touch the cards. Thus, the hassle to claim the rebates.

OK, the government is not stupid and this scheme is just the to make some of the people happy. Most of the people (atleast working ones) are not going to benefit from this 80 transactions. If one works 6 days a week, that's a total of 24 days a month. Two tolls a day, that's only 48 transactions. U may only benefit when u need to go pass four tolls each day and that's very unlikely for most. The threshold is set too high… Just a thought, how nice it would be if they allow subsidary cards like handphones connection services; then the scheme makes a lot more sense. But again, the govt. is not stupid.

It is ridiculous to ask someone who is stuck in jam and then pay full amount. We pay for tolls to save time and gain convenience right? Otherwise, moneyback!

Going to picnic on weekend, pick toll road..

    Going anywhere, pick toll road..

Since for sure we would NOT meet the req. if we were only going to work!

We have to PAY MORE TO GET DISCOUNT!

    sheesh!

  • I am among the few who are fortunate enough to go through at least 4-toll plazas a day (to and fro), sometimes 5-toll plazas but I agree, the discount should be extended to all users, regardless of usage or mode of payment. I can forsee that some toll operators will say that their T&G is spoilt so users have to pay cash and not be entitled to the rebate. Mark my word, this will happen and ultimately, its the toll operators giving the rebate and not T&G.

Arent they compiling data till the end of the year about the feasibility of a toll takeover? Just buy them out already and recoup the money eventually through reasonable rates that do not burden the citizens. Hopefully there'll be a positive outcome for users and nothing like this half-hearted offer to add to the other insincere after midnite rebate.

  • This is life. When money go out, very easy and fast, When want to claim back, they make you walk in circles for the 20%. I rather spend my time doing productive things that can make me more money rather than going to "Q here" for the RM20-30. Has anyone seen the queue when they sold those TAG. I stood there for 3-4 hours to get them.

The rebate should come to those who uses the toll to a certain amount, and not the frequency of it.

Imagine the distance you will be driving using the TnG card 80 times a month.

Even companies won't encourage their dispatch/drivers/tranports/employees to utilize the toll roads in such frequency to qualify for the rebate.

Hopefully the print media will pick this issue up, investigate further on it and put it in the newspaper.

I think they create this "Promotion" just to pissed the 'rakyat' off…

the 80 times rebate is flawed and stupid… it should be based on amount, not 'times'.

Great…. u have an system tat automatically deducts money in the card and have no ways make the rebate done automatically…

  • I just dont see how it help our malaysians. majority of msian only uses the toll road twice, go to work and come back home which will only add up to 60, and that is if you work 30 days in a month, but home many of us do that. And no automatic redeem, haven sake its such an old skool tech, cant any IT professionals in T&Go master that tech?

    Utterly Crap!!!!

    Use Maybank's Zing TNG card.

It's tied to your Maybank credit card, therefore enables automatic RM100 reload once your balance dropped below RM50.

The automatic reload can be done at normal TNG lanes also (not necessarily the Tambah Nilai lanes only…)

Therefore no need to worry about topping up anymore. Provided your credit card belum sampai limit lah jugak kan.

Boleh potong automatik, boleh topup automatik.

Rebate pun obviously boleh automatik patutnye =P

Yup2. So you'll have to choose between having to pay RM2 per every RM100 reload or the hassles of finding the outlets. queuing up, etc etc.

Anyways, all this while i thought it's free. Haha. Silly me. Should've known =P

    Thanks for the info!

  • hi guys, need u all to verify this.

i just registered n logged on to the see the qualified transactions for the 20% rebate. Here's what i found:

    1) On each Saturday, i will pass thru 4 LDP tolls (to and fro). In the page, ALL LDP toll transactions are not listed! Are they not qualified? I damn sure not because LDP highway is one of the participating highway in this scheme!

    2) The page listing is 7 days late. As of now, i can only see transactions up to 7 Sept! Not sure when is the starting date (in the listing) because the page can't be loaded now!?!?!!

  • Travel Malacca-Seremban-KL every week, 240km per week (to and fro), 960 km per month but only 8x TNG transactions. How????

Should knock the head of whoever who made these kinds of decisions. Decisions that makes us flare up instead of cooling us down.

    Loh,

i think some concessionaires update our tolls not so soon…like my case, my DUKE payment always go up fast…but NKVE take a long time to appear…but they did appear eventually…

maybe thats why they suggest us to claim on 5th the following month, not 1st…to give some leeway time i guess…

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0
  • correct, TnG CAreline have clarified this to me via email. They also explained why the rebate for a particular month (e.g. Sep 09) is not calculated in full (eg 1-30 Sep).

Also, another +plus point is i can accumulate the rebates for up to 6 months. It makes sense for me as i dont have to queue up the never-ending reload lane at toll plazas. At least now, every 6 months, i have to force myself to redeem the rebates.

here's what the Careline wrote to me:

    "Dear Sir/Madam,

    Thank you for your feedback.

At times, the rebate portal may experience delay in reflecting the latest updated no. of toll transactions and rebate value due to delay in uploading of toll transaction data. However, you will still able to redeem the rebate value for the affected transactions in the following month once the transactions are updated in the web portal. The rebate value can be redeemed within 6 months from the transaction date.

Rebate amount earn for the previous month (e.g. Sept-09) will be generated at the beginning of the following month (i.e. Oct-09). For data that is still not uploaded by the time the rebate amount earn is generated, the remaining amount will be credited into the subsequent month when a new rebate amount earn will be generated again.

    Yours faithfully,

    [name removed]

    Touch 'n Go Careline"

i fully and totally agree with all the comments above.

as a Touch & Go subscriber we should be given discounts on tolls, parkings and what nots. we shouldn’t be penalized and have to pay more like the zing card auto reload rm2 and parking, we have to pay 10% more – for 10 times x 10% will become 100%.

this is a long term affair and we have to pay more and more eventho they have collected our $ in advance. this is injustice.

please look into all these and treat your loyal customers well not penalize them for using your service. it should be a win-win situation, not only advantages to your establishment.

    regards and thank you

THIS 20% REBATE IS PURE BS!!!!!!!

At November, i try to get the rebate for October, the counter say i didint reach 80 transaction

I gone online to check my transaction, so many transactions missing!!!!!

i ask the careline, their explanation to me was “Transaction not captured properly because i register online on mid October”

then i ask, “then why Novermber’s transaction also missing?”, and the careline replied, “because not yet update”

then i asked again: “why 13 November transaction updated but 12 November not updated??!!” and the reply i got was “because we got different service provider”

    BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whatever makes you tick is GOOD !!!

If you dont like 20% then get PLUSMiles 5%

Have been using the 20% rebate thing since Feb 2010. Every month i can get RM35 to RM40 back. Good for me. Not sales but have to go thru 5 tolls daily to work previously. Now cut back to 3-4 tolls daily depending on traffic; also to save money. This is the best. I don’t bother to collect the rebate every month so less anxiety keeping track of the transaction.

One can always get PlusMiles. But at 5% you are better off using this if you are distant traveler/worker.

Hope they keep both systems so everyone can find the best fit and be happy :)

I have been getting the TNG rebate for many months.. but lately ever since November 2010 until January 2011… there are many missing transactions… and i didn’t get the rebate.. and there is no way to proof it.. this is stupid..

    i calculated.. dec2010 i got about 22 transaction missing.. nov2010 9 missing.. zzz

i used tng 4 times every working day plus those weekends.. 80 times is easily for me to hit in a month…
