AE86 is a sport car.
And the reason toyota produce FT86 is for reviving the lagendary AE86. Numbers of sketches been done to revive of this car. Not to forget the engineering for the car as they did so the car will have 50-50 weight front/back so it acn be a very good sport car and DRIFTING as well.

superb design for me, but the power is not there, 180hp is too little, need bolt on turbo. im expecting this car need to produce over than 280hp to balance her looks.

the 4 Aircond vent pointing to the driver… the driver must be in Hot Seat.
I pity the rear passengers ( in Malaysia, this is not a practical car) Toyota heartless design. One sentence comment …heartless ,terrible interior

the concept is always cool! and it will always be like that.

unfortunately, all those cool things will be toned down when it comes to the production lines. the engineers are just very happy to show us what they can do with a piece of metal and plastics. at the end, we still got a stereotype and old-and-made-for-uncle looking car on our road.

But more to the point, since it’s going to be the spiritual successor to the original Sprinter Trueno, one would think Toyota would build the FT86 to exhibit similar characteristics that made the original famous?

This car looks awesome! like a mini LF-A! Moreover, there is the sweet boxer engine and chassis to go with. This car will handle very well and still have lots of power.

IMO, the boxer is the best 4cyl engine in the world. It sounds very masculine, lots of torque, low CG, symmetrical, etcs.

NOTE: Subaru already have their own VVT-L system well before Toyota is involved in their business. If i’m not wrong subaru buys the technology from Porsche. Now, I reckon Subaru may switch to Toyota’s VVT so they don’t have to pay patent money to Porsche.

i’ll take this anytime over “froggie” 370z or “fashionist” TT. cool ! revival of the legendary 86! though it should be more subtle looking. this piece of masterpiece looks too high tech for what would come into mind when mentioning 86.

The engine gonna be 2.0L Direct Injection Boxer engine (Flat 4)
and 6 speed manual
Initially the target power is 200hp, but was reduced to 160 hp

sad that it has no styling cues at all that refers to the legendary AE86. Its like selling a new camaro, but looking like a holden. Look at the Pontiac GTO that is based on the holden coupe, it does not look anything like the old GTO, and the sales reflected that. Now just look at the new camaro and mustang, it is selling like hot cakes as it looks like a modern interpertation of the great original car.
