why still run Proton? pass a bill to pay those BN cronies an annual ransom out of our national budget ... then dissolve Proton & remove car duty & excise...either way we're still paying, it makes no difference & no sense!

Vincent Ang may have something there. Our G is trying hard to gain more advancement or improvement for M'sia. Yet, the rakyat are not. In fact, some rakyat are soo....heavily dependent on our G's incentives that they could not have survive on their own. Worse still, some of them are even unaware and complain still.
The problem with rakyat is that their thinking are too simple and narrow minded. Their thoughts are so easily influenced that they are oblivious to some truths.
For instance, I can't understand with some car buyers who would rather bear with a 9 year long loan repayment just to enjoy the car of their dreams. These are the kind of people who are considered, mati pun mau muka. When the G finally implements something like tax on luxuries, they also make noises.
On the other hand, our G is also another, everyday thinking of weird so-called solutions to problems the country faces. While I'm fine with the new policy on old cars inspection (even I have a '95 Wira), but the thought of the 'buayas' in these inspection firms that pisses me off. I meant, will the G ensure that these testers won't ask for under table money? There's a lot more to consider.
Cease import of recond cars and spareparts??Why?Takut kereta haram on road meh? Its true but whats PDRM doing? Every day tahan kereta ubahsuai ekzos saja just for lunch money. Useless buggers. The PDRM in Sarawaks are the most senseless. Makan duit besar besar. Everyday tahan kereta tinted gelap, modifikasi haram, ekzos besar/bising, tapi kereta diorang sendiri lagi lah hebat. I tell u guys one thing and its the truth as I've experienced such situation. These polis would visit workshops and ask for protection money!!!If you accept their services, you're also committed to service their own vehicles, and FOR FREE! Kedai kopi pun sama, they can makan and minum at kedai kopi for free!!!Everyday!!!
I'll say one thing, not to insult though, but the bumis should improve themselves in terms of financials and so on. don't go on war with your own fellow M'sian neighbors la...don't every day cina yg bertanggungjawab atas wabak wabak mcm SARS, JE, Swine FLu. Esp. the bumis in S'wak, everyday Cina Labuh (Chinese falls), Palak Cina (Chinese' head), Cina this Cina that, but one thing they fail to realize, they work for Chinese companies and yet towards end of month, they'd extend their hands to their Chinese bosses for loan. If they are so mad at Chinese, then be successful. Seriously, you are welcome to join the wealthy club. Stop spending salaries or loans on boozes. Chineses are also one thing la...they may be good in business tapi in local area only. Sekali mau venture out international, hah! Simple English word pun dah refer kamus. Sikit sikit pun dah gangster. Complain pun sama sama saja pandai but never have a broad picture. Only think for themselves.
There's a lot more to say but it doesn't mean that I'm the only right one in M'sia. Every fellow M'sians have their own thoughts and this is what this particular M'sian have to say.
I ask you fellow M'sians; apa macam nak jadi 1Malaysia mcm nih?

Encik RT

'hidup berhutang adalah tidak merdeka…. negara merdeka tapi rakyat tidak merdeka….'

That's right folks true Merdeka is when you are free of the clutches of the banks. Now, go figure out who controls the Malaysian retail banks.
Short of two all are controlled by the government/BN/UMNO.

'Rakyat Malaysia sampai mati berhutang… said,' is right. Malaysians are not MERDEKA yet.

RT, that is why so many people are pissed with the recent announcement on the NAP. After struggling for years to be free of the banks how many would want to take out another loan to buy a piece of steel unless one can comfortably make the monthly payments for the next 5-9 years. For most Malaysian paying for housing and car loans is a monthly struggle. Most of us if possible do not wish to live through the TORTURE of paying for bank loans.

RT, you do not live in the real world faced by many Malaysians. Just like the BN government who tell us to ubah cara hidup you do not seem to understand the hardships faced by MOST Malaysians.

Perhaps it's the rakyat that made the mistake. We make the mistake of electing the wrong people. We elected people who are more concerned about their own happiness instead of the rakyat's happiness. Let's all correct our mistake during the next election. let's not repeat the same mistake that we have done for the last 20 years, otherwise we will suffer for another 20 years.

Pst pst, a bicycle would do a much better job.

Not only you will not pay a single cent to P1P2, not a single cent to Petronas, can go anywhere and park EVERYWHERE including your apartment balcony.

And you might save big chunk of medical consultation fee after you retired.

May I suggest something who need a car to move around or work: Get a motorcycle! Little tax to Gov, no need to pay toll, less burden on Gov to give subsidies, can park ANYWHERE, can never get stuck in traffic jam, will never cause traffic jam (unless in the motor lane on Federal Hwy) and more money to buy other stuff! Not a single cen goes to P1, P2 when you buy a moto!

Like our goverment said, Change Lifestyle! Ditch the car and Rempit to work! More dangerous yes, but not any safer than some local cars.

Like the saying: My father rode a camel, then a moto, then a car. I drive a car, but now have to go back to moto :( Later back to camel?

Or dun buy any cars at all! If everyone stop buying P1, P2, Naza, Toyota, Honda etc for 1-2 months the entire motor industry will hangus and all the Gov have to loosen up coz no money (tax) is flowing!

KB7,

Can u see the below happens before NAP take place or before imported spare parts banned?
1Public transport existence / efficiency increased
2More time given for old cars to be replaced
3Puspakom improved, or more licenses given to certified workshop..
4Lower car prices..

I dont foreseen any of above will happen, so it's going to burden normal folks like us....

1. The objective of sending the car more than 15 years old should be safe-guarding the public and the road users. However, I have yet to see any statistics that cars older than 15 years caused more accidents on the road than newer cars?
2. If the public is not convinced that the intention of these "tests" are for the safety of the rakyat, but cause unnecessary hardship for the people especially the poor, I am sure this will be reflected in the next general election.

LOL its ezra the broken record again, doing his mandatory inaccurate cut-and-paste post on an NAP thread. such a loyal little lapdog
----------------------------------
The NAP is winding down, currently, malaysian On-The-Road prices (ignore online prices) are only about 25% higher compared to that of developed countries for similar make and models (in the popular =<2.0L segment). This margin will decrease with time.

The NAP is a distraction. The REAL ISSUE is the LOW PURCHASING POWER (PPP adjusted) of malaysians, currently at about 1/3rd that of people in developed countries.

At the end of the day there is simply no free lunch. The overall productivity of the country is tied with the purchasing power of it's citizens. Malaysia has Oil and Gas yes, but divided by 25 million people it's not that very much (ie. per capita).

The real factor that would make cars more affordable is not price alone, but the income of the general population. If your country doesnt produce much stuff, and has a worthless currency, there is no point earning heaps even if cars were tax free like in langkawi.

I reiterate: THE REAL ISSUE IS THE LOW PURCHASING POWER OF MALAYSIANS.

We need genuine productivity and an industrial base to drive it up. That's what the NAP is for. It is similar to what Korea did and there is nothing special or revolutionary about the NAP. Other countries do it too! Sure cars are 25% cheaper on the road in say, Louisiana, but keep in mind they pay about 40% income tax there regardless of whether or not they own a car. Foreign governments bail out their industries too - some indirectly via tax breaks, free land, and fleet orders (Australia replaces it's police fleet with holdens every 40,000km or two years).

Are cars cheper in developed countries? Yes. Because their people's purchasing power is THREE TIMES BIGGER than malaysians.

Selling out to foreign companies, giving them free access to the malaysian market will turn us into something similar to the gulf states where every damn thing is imported, and local industry and productivity is stifled - eventually resulting in a lower purchasing power of malaysian citizens...so what if cars are cheaper if your money is worth less?

Hey RT,

When does ur kind intend to actually work for your food? Now that ur tired of eating the bones and bits that the others have spat out you want the meat all for urself. Much like the scavenging vultures that are oh so commonly seen tearing off bits from a carcass. How shameful to think about such peoples so used to handouts and nipplefeeding oopps bottlefeeding, now want to 'defend' their stand. I tell u what, first try finding a definition for wat it means to be ur type then u can play big boy games like posting opinions in forums. If all else fails then check into rehab....take it from someone who really does not want the ur kind to be extinct once 'handouts' are abolished.

We do not normally see US cars in Malaysia, probably only FORD and CHEVROLET of limited models.

But u get to see all the American cars in SAUDI ARABIA, u name it from all the BIG 3

GM, FORD, CHRYSLER with all their sub brands, the bigger (the gas guzzler) the better for the SAUDI. Their sizes are a lot bigger than TOYOTA Land Cruiser (small indeed). U see a lot of HUMMER too.

But I can conclude that American cars are squarish and ugly, part of the reasons for their down fall.
