Mazda CX-7 now officially in Malaysia

mazda-cx-7

The Mazda CX-7 crossover is now officially available in Malaysia, sold at Bermaz Motor showrooms nationwide. Previously, if you wanted one, the only avenue was grey importers like Naza World. The model launched is the latest facelifted variant, which has a broad ‘smiley’ face. Click here to link back to our earlier post on the facelifted CX-7, which has all you need to know about the car.

I understand that the reason why it has took so long to arrive here is because the the CX-7’s turbocharged engine had issues working with our poor quality fuel, as told by a Mazda engineer back at the Mazda6 launch – well, that hasn’t improved by leaps and bounds, but since it’s now here, we presume the 234bhp/350Nm 2.3-litre DISI engine has no problem using Euro2 fuel. Power goes to all wheels via a 6-speed ‘Activematic’ auto ‘box.

As with Mazda’s CBU range, the CX-7’s equipment range is generous – keyless entry/stary, leather, HID headlamps and 18-inch wheels, sunroof and Bose stereo are among the standard kit. It is priced at RM248,008 excluding insurance, about RM50K below the seven-seat CX-9, which is selling pretty well.

Danny is full time with this site now. It has been tough running this site alone. News is overwhelming and time also has to be devoted to longer feature stories, overseas test drive reports, etc. Whenever a car is launched overseas with a test drive event for example, the itinerary can take nearly a week including plane travel time and no one is left in Malaysia to update the website. There is also a side project that I cannot tell you guys about yet. We are venturing into a new medium to support our Internet activities and this project just recently got the green light. It's going to be something very exciting and all I can tell you is that the supporting medium is not print ;) I have scouted long and hard for over a year to find someone suitable to assist, and it was just our luck that Danny came along, someone with suitable journalistic ideals that coincide with this site's. Having one more person for test drive reviews will also enable us to do test drive comparison stories, side by side!

  • could it be that paul tan is venturing into television broadcasting??? what ever it is, i'm sure it will be great and all the best paul.

  • Very good Paul.

All the best to you & Danny.

But i think i have an idea what 'medium' you're talkin about. :) But printing cost is getting cheaper now… there's no harm in making it into print as well… just don't make it a mag… it's too crowded already.

Ooo, so Paultan wants to venture into TV now?

Well astro might take it, but I will support it. If can start like current 5th Gear and slowly become TopGear than its fine.

    Must think of catchy name:P

i dont fancy mazda SUVs because their interiors are very dull….harrier maybe expensive but so much better…but harrier is in a diff class tho…however this cx 7 might attract murano buyers

any shots of the interior? the CX-9 interior is very bare compared to Harrier and Murano.

All the best bro Paul, after almost 5 years with your website, i am wishing your all the best with your new evolution. Perhaps this evolution is expected since your website is doing well. Whoever your proxy is, i am sure he or she is experience enough about your passion for automotive. I just hope that this evolution also involve motorcycle in terms to come…

I think that the marketing team at Mazda is brilliant!! Having it price just less 50k will make some buyer just grab the all gorgeous and muscular CX9 and making some sensible (but still rich) just opt for the less CX7.

Btw, all the very best for you and Danny, Paul!! Waa…Paul nak venture into TV tu…looks like someone could change his Perdana into E class soon! ;-) juz kidding…

Mazda is good, and better value-for-money than Toyota. She is just not well accepted in Malaysia. Not many people can play cars; meaning to spend, for example rm150 000, to buy a car just like buy a toy for his/her child, and even the car spoilt in less than a year, he/she will not be sedih. To me, if the all-new Hyundai Tucson with moonroof is only slightly above half price of this CX-7, then I will definitely choose Hyundai Tucson, for sure.

  • why dont we go for a TT session paul?

  • Turbo definitely not drinking RON 95.

If anyone had noticed, our fuel still Euro 2 only for both petrol and diesel.

Seriously doubt major car manufacturers will still design engines for something extinct.

Nonetheless, we have so many cars more than 2 decades on the road, means quality still not too bad.

CX 7 more sporty looking than CX 9 but Mazda Malaysia has a lot of catching up to do before even hitting 10% sales numbers of what Honda or Toyota is selling at.

Mazda is under rated in Malaysia, good built quality, euro feel.

Saw facelifted CX7 at Bermaz Jalan Ampang almost a month ago.

    Only showroom model.

    Get inside to see more.

The interior quality is unacceptable for a quarter-million car.

Tiguan is much better in terms of quality.

But then this CX7's boot is huge, especially compared to Tiguan's.

    It's extra RM10k if you want 4WD/AWD.

Read in motortrend, this beast can reach 60mph in just 7.7s, almost as quick as Q5 (7.5s).Way better than Tiguan(8.5s).

For your information, latest refined version of Mazda CX-9 now retail at OTR with Insurance RM331k, whereas Mazda CX-7 2WD version & 4WD version will price at OTR with Insurance RM264K and RM275k respectively, from 1st January onwards, some price changes for Mazda CX-7.

  • Mazda cars are good but parts replacement can be a pain. Some parts need to be ordered from Japan and take at least 4 weeks to arrive because no stock locally. Good luck if you fall into that predicament.

  • williaml on Dec 07, 2009 at 10:11 pm

If uncommon fast moving parts, eg. certain body parts, yes it may need to order from Japan, or alternatively, getting from S'pore.

Good for you, Paul! Hope you and Danny will not leave this blog…will be boring on my working nites…

Btw..the Mazda is great looking but a bit expensive as a lot of recon Harriers and Muranos still sell below RM200k and the parts are cheaper than Mazda's which have to solve their after sales service..

How to make a fair comparison in term of pricing for recond model and Official Mazda CX-7? Those models sell below RM200k are mainly 2007 year make or before, whereas CX-7 is 2009 year make and upcoming 2010 year make…
