Flavio Briatore lifetime F1 ban overturned

Flavio Briatore lifetime F1 ban overturnedA French court has overturned the indefinite ban from Formula 1 placed on former Renault team boss Flavio Briatore by the FIA. Briatore was handed the penalty last September for his role in the 2008 Singapore GP “Crashgate” scandal.

Investigations concluded that Briatore, driver Nelson Piquet and technical boss Pat Symonds conspired for Piquet to deliberately crash to help Renault’s lead driver Fernando Alonso, who went on to win the race

An FIA enquiry then saw Briatore barred from FIA-sanctioned motorsport indefinitely. However, the Italian challenged the methods used in the FIA’s case, leading to this ruling by the Tribunal de Grand Instance in Paris, which also overturned the five-year ban given to Symonds. Piquet was granted immunity by the FIA for his cooperation.

Even if overturned, I am not sure he will return to F1. Damage done.

I think Ferrari's boss said is best, we should look forward and stop Briatore & Piquet from coming back into F1. They've brought the sport to disrepute and still have the cheek to return?!

why is the french courts overturning FIA's own internal ban on flavio? The court has no jurisdiction over FIA's decisions. Flavio can only sue.

Putting other's lives in danger so that he can achieve something is really unforgivable. This guy should not only be banned, but also put behind bars!

The FIA can bring the case to Mahkamah Rayuan untuk penangguhan keputusan maa. Bring it to Malaysia sure rejected and overturned again.

FIA is based in France and so the French court ruling applies to FIA. But FIA can always appeal.

It will be a shame if someone like this is allowed back in to the sport. Ron Dennis of McLaren was quietly kicked out of F1 for a lesser offense than what Flavio did.

doesnt make sense….just because FIA is in france does not mean french courts ruling applies to FIA. FIA is a sporting body.
