BMW 3-Series Coupe and Convertible gets facelift!

The facelift version of the E90 3-Series Sedan has been on the market for some time now but since the E92 Coupe and the E93 Cabriolet came later, the facelift versions of these babies have only just arrived.

Like all of the latest BMWs, the ‘angel eyes’ in the headlamps are now lit by LED and are white in colour, eliminating the need for you to go and swap the previously default yellow angel eyes for white ones. I personally prefer them in yellow though, but BMW says the white ones improve visibility and they are brighter as well.

The top of the line non-M 335i models have now made the switch to the new N55 engine. It looks like the twin-turbo N54 will be reserved for the higher powered output levels – the 450Nm versions in the 7-Series, and the ‘is” models such as the Z4 sDrive35is. You can probably expect a 335is model for the 3-Series coming up soon.

As for the exterior changes, perhaps its best if you just look at how they look like in detail after the jump. The bumpers and lights are new, the overhang is slightly longer due to the new bumpers, and the kidney grilles have a chrome band and look slightly wider. Enjoy!

Its about time, the E93 series is a lemon, HPFP failures, E93 convertibles that leak like there is no tomorrow, no customer relations anymore

The pre-facelift coupes n cabriolet looks fine…, only the prefacelift saloon was downright ugly…, new engines are good, but cosmetics are not so effective but different… its like putting on braces on a geeky smile…but it looks good in chrome (on the red coupe) rather than black plastic which looks cheap (the silver cc)

but still …doesnt decrease their desirability …..

I've been a long time reader of Paul's blog but I have never had the urge to leave a comment except, well, this time. This facelift has definitely intrigued me, though, in a bad way.

Just a personal opinion, I think Chris Bangle had overall done a much much better job than Adrian van Hooydonk. First, it was the F10, which was a real letdown. And that disappointment is followed by this facelift. Just a few comments on the facelift :) take it easy, just personal opinions:

    1) The rear lights – This is the biggest disappointment of all. I have been a long admirer of the pre-facelifted rear lights. It used to have a young sporty sexy lady look from the back. And that was what differentiate it substantially from the E90 sedan. It looks like the width the lights have been reduced slightly? I can't tell what exactly was changed but the overall look of the facelifted backside reminds me of a 70-year-old cow "girl" that I unwillingly saw on the street of Times Square in New York. So I wonder if Adrian has a different preference for woman's butt?

    2) The bumper – Isn't this supposed to be a young sporty car? What goes through Adrian's mind when he decided to put up this old man bumper that looks even worse than the one on a C-Class?

    3) The side view – Aligned with the F10's design, I think the character line below the door (side skirt) has been smoothen out. That, in my opinion, is just like preferring a girl with less character. Man, we all love character don't we?

    Just my 2 cents…

BMW N55 engine uses single turbo. Any reason why they op for this instead of Twin-Turbo in N54? Does N54 still applicable in newer models?
