New HDi 112 diesel engine for Peugeot

Peugeot has updated its 1.6 liter turbodiesel engine and the first car in the range to get this new engine is the new 308CC drop top. The new engine makes 112 horsepower over the outgoing model’s 110 horses and p uts out 270Nm of torque from just 1,750rpm, which is a 12.5% increase. There is an ‘overboost’ function for a temporary increase to 285Nm.

The engine’s massive torque starts from way under the low ‘peak’ of 1,750rpm – even at 1,000rpm the engine is already making 135Nm torque, then boost kicks in at 1,500rpm giving the engine 242Nm. Higher up the rev range at 3,500rpm, torque starts to taper down to about 224Nm, and the peak horsepower of 112hp is achieved at 3,600rpm.

The new engine meets Euro 5 emissions standards and will soon make its way into other Peugeot cars. The particulate filter has a lifespan of just over 180,000km. No hopes of this particular engine making its way into Peugeot cars here in Malaysia as even with an upgrade to Euro 2, we aren’t able to use these very clean Euro 5 engines. But there may be hope for modified older versions…

    A 110-ish bhp car with 270Nm of torque at 1,750rm ?

Just can’t fathom how the acceleration is..

And many Malaysians are almost ignorant to this as this is truly an alien experience in Malaysia.

Normally, similar petrol-powered cars (engine cc and weight is almost similar or in range) e.g. City, Vios, SX4, Latio, Waja, Persona, Neo, only have around 100~120Nm at 1,750rpm? Which is good already to most. Well.. more than double the torque is even much better!

    Moving on… (read: out-of-topic ramblings)

Not only does it give much greater power, current diesel engines give more mileage too compared to petrol engines.
Isn’t that translate to lesser amount of fuel subsidy?
Which mean lesser Govt. spending on subsidy?
    Balancing the budget, anyone?

As petrol and diesel price is almost similar, it is very confusing to normal rakyat, or folks like me as to why hasn’t Malaysia (read the beloved Government) move to introduce steps and measures (real, strong measures) to embrace diesel-engine passenger vehicles in this progressively forsaken country?

Why the also forgettable revised-NAP focuses on sweetener to embrace hybrid and then…. after some empty hoo haa in the news (read: propaganda), nothing happen, at all?
Honda and Toyota tak makan umpan ye..?

The Europeans are really pushing this diesel thing arent they? Now it all depends on whether the Yanks give up the Priuses for oil burners. Whilst I loathe petrol hybrids, diesel hybrids are a better proposition, in fact similar technology has been used by warships for several years.

Honestly speaking, a Euro 5 compliant diesel vehicle uses our so callled “Euro2M” diesel will seriously deteoriate the lifespan of diesel particulate filter. At the end the maintenance cost will be sky high.

I think euro 4 diesel would cost similar to petrol. Would that benefit lorry and bus operators. What about fishermen? Would that effect the cost of seafood?

must be damn drivable with that amount of torque, but crawling or parking will be a bitch. tap abit of the throttle, and it goes over the wall.

Yes, you’re right. Submarines use ‘Diesel Hybrid’ technology already for about 100yrs… ;)
